Froome Appreciation Thread

He's had a great 2011 Vuelta outing so far. And he did his work today for Wiggans on Angliru, and had me wondering how long he could keep that up. In the end, when Wiggans tank was on empty, he had to go on his own inside the last km to preserve something for Sky. Is it just me?

sorry, but to me -more than appreciation, he's getting too suspicious & rather becoming a cartoon-I just cannot put together how on earth this guy gets dropped, climbs back up-sets up the pace for Wiggo, even passes him & finishes fourth in the Angliru........

Him getting dropped early could just be about saving energy or just tricking the other teams to do some work? (if that's the case, it worked).

Another good ride by Friggins and finally they had to be seperated.
Good move.

Shortly before Wiggins exploded, Riis and Ullrich scenario in 1997 came to my mind.
I was just waiting for Wiggins to give the command.
But then moto2 lost balance. :D

Sign me up. His ride in the Vuelta has amazed me to say the least.. One can not stop think what would've happened if he were on a different, more respectful, team & with a better TTT...

Now what does Wiggins is going to say? I'm the leader I'm the leader, I want to go first even if Froome is in better form, I'm the leader, that guy is a frigging tool, I found interesting he was with the leaders in the begining, hell I was even rooting for the guy, but to show his discontent when Froome got the red jersey he lost me.

Except that didn't happen.

if he's still with sky next year i could see him going to the giro as sky's leader with this performance

His teammate Lars Petter Nordhaug was commentating on norwegian eurosport this week. He said that Froome has always been incredibly strong, but "didn't really know how to race", and "not racing smart", things like that. Maybe he just found out how to expend his energy..

Froome has been the revelation of the Vuelta, he could always ride well in the mountains and the TT's but has come of age. Couldn't belive what he had to do when in red for Wiggo after proving he was the strongest in the team in the TT. If Sky had got Wiggins to do the work Froome would still be in Red tonight ahead of Cobo. And as for Cobo....

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but the British Cycling guys have been saying for a few years he's a potential grand tour GC rider. This is the first race I've ever seen where he has looked strong, and didn't waste that strength on a silly attack. Having a job to focus on really seems to have helped him.

Now I'd be amazed if next year he is challenging in the Giro or Vuelta, but this should certainly give him the confidence to challenge in other races.

IF he does sign with Sky that is quite likely. However, it is definitely good for Froome that he doesn't have a contract as there will be a few teams lining up to sign him up. Also, I don't think that Sky will be the best place for Froome (too many big names and he's obviously good enough to play the role of a leader in a solid team).

Amazed if he is challenging in the Vuelta next year?! What would be amazing in that? He's 2nd after the hardest stages.

Next year.

I don't think he is suddenly a challenge for grand tours, I think this is a perfect storm of form of his life, plus just about every big favourite stinking the race up.

And I hope I'm wrong.

Damn straight, He said on Universal Sport: I'm the leader, even if he shows stregnth in the TT, he still is going to lose the Jersey, I'm the leader of the team, no if you see Menchow, with 3 grand Tours and and a TDF podium, he understands cobo's form (whatever that is)and let the man rides; Im wondering how many GTs Wiggins has to be so sure he was the leader of the team

After a couple of stages, before Froome had begun ripping the race apart, I thought he looked in good shape and even considered to put a few money on him just for the fun of it. However, the betting companies hadn't even given him odds at that point! A few days later he was at 200, still a good value, and now he is at 5...

Dirty Cobo, clean Froome

Lovely double standards again. Disgusting.

Cobo actually proved something in the past, and unlike other Saunier Duval friends, was never suspected of anything. He never had any relation to clinical cases or positive tests.
Froome literally comes out of nowhere if you compare past results to now. Even guys like Poels, Kessiakoff, etc had proven far more before this Vuelta then him. Yet, you don't hear me complaining about it. I like suprises.

Can't you guys just hold every suspicion? Or take it to the clinic. Please. This is getting tiresome

Instead of "you guys", why not direct it at the one solitary poster who made any reference to Cobo.

This (says me who was quick to question Europcar in July)

I just re-watched the interview with Froome at teamsky's website from january this year. Interestingly, he says: "Obviously I'd like to win a bike race this year...Tour de Suisse is a big goal, and perhaps even the vuelta espana" (I guess he didn't mean it that literally, I highly doubt he thought he would have been in position to win the vuelta with just a few stages remaining!)

He probably meant a stage?
