if in this age, someone tells me that the climbers can't win because there is too much individual time-trial, i just might get outside and kill puppies

Climbers can win,but the best of them are pretty good against the clock these days ;) I'm afraid that Landa will be destroyed by Nibali in the Giro ITT next year, plus Nibali is climbing-god too.

Dennis showed way more climbing potential than Dumoulin until this year breakthrough for the Dutch.I think he's got the potential to be a good GT rider, maybe even a future winner.
G.Thomas seems determined to give up on classics and focus on stage races.Let's see if he's good enough to challenge at least for a GT win,i suppose Vuelta will be his first goal.
Landa doesn't have any chance if he doesn't improve his ITT,J.Rod can testify for this.
Porte,Dumoulin and Zakarin looks like the most viable options to get a GT win.

Landa is a true climber. Purito is a one-trick pony that still gets over the cols with best somehow. :p ;)

So, basically Landa is the actual one-trick pony.

Hehe. Good response.
There are a freaking lot of one trick ponies in the bunch.
Actually you could say Purito ain't one as he can climb the long climbs and is a puncheur ;)

Indeed, well played Sir! Apparently you're the only one that fully understood the hyperbolic as well as the ironic of that statement! :)

Nibali's climbing seems to be all hard work though. Not very natural. You don't see Landa getting dropped by Greipel do you.

Rodriguez is more an example that a pure climber can win a grand tour with his 2 almost wins. His inability to win these 2 are more a testament to questionable decision making and tactics at the time than due to his itt limitations. The win was in hand and he (and his team) allowed it to slip away.

The Yates boys have a great future and depending on how their TT'ng improves, I'd include them in the mix. TBH, they will be up there regardless given their climbing ability. They so remind me of Robert Millar (who could TT when he had to to stay in the game).

Out of that list, I only see Landa as a guy who can fairly realistically get one. The other guys could win but they would need a lot to go right for them although what happens more than a couple years down the road is anyone's guess.

Amador - no
Rodriguez - think his "window" has closed
Landa - could win a GT with minimal ITT, but this limitation is likely to rule him out of more.
Majka - a GT win is possible but I think there'll be more podiums than wins. Doesn't dominate in the mountains & his ITT is serviceable rather than better than the competition.
Gesink - no
Chaves - some possibility (esp if his ITT can continue to improve) but Vuelta more likely than others.
Yates twins - yet to see if either/both can ride the full 3 weeks "with the big boys". ITT will prob need to keep progressing. Next 2 years, and where they go end of contract 2016, will be crucial.
Porte - NO, straight NO ! Can win 1 weekers but super dom is where he's at for GTs. Can't last 3 weeks and his ITT is frankly overrated.
Dumoulin - yes, IF he can find a time that can give him sufficient support in the mountains. His ITT is far superior to the vast majority of GC men and he can generally limit his losses in the really high stuff.
Bardet/Barguil - will their ITT ever be good enough ? Perhaps better chances to win Vuelta but the eternal pressure for a Frenchman to win Le Tour...
TJVG - don't think so
Pinot - don't think so
Dennis - just don't think he'll ever be a good enough climber to be a GT contender. Can win 1 weekers. Likely to win his share of ITTs at GT although Dumoulin may have something to say about that.
Zakarin - interesting. Certainly an excellent ITT but is he more an opportunist than a legit contender ?
