Tiago Machado will be out for a while as he has a bad case of bronchitis.

He was sick the entire Giro, his team asked him to pull out and he refused. He's probably regretting that right about now.

italian u23 teams protested at the presentation of the giro bio against participation of the colombian selection. reason? because they are too strong...

Incredible... organiser said I can't forbid a team to ride because they are too strong. someone down the hall shouted "shoot them!"

italian u23 cycling exposed by colombians in past 2 years. without clinical materials they have nothing in the mountains.

they are lucky though as the colombian team will most likely not start this year due to again incredible political struggles within federation and who will select the riders and from what teams... colombia is like brazil. the best cyclists/footballers but the worst organisers/directors

Plenty of time left until the Vuelta for Tiago.
But the question is how to warm up? Will he be ready for Burgos, now the main traditional warmup, or Poland at the same time (now that it's made a move to be tougher it looks like better preparation)? Surely it's a bit too much to use Portugal as a warmup (and would Radioshack even go? I mean, they have a strong Portuguese presence on the team, but with the team having to do Poland and Eneco, and presumably wanting some riders in for Colorado...). The early start of the Vuelta this year is also quite a damaging thing for this warming up.

thats normal for u23 top riders

f.ex Thomas Dekker earned 500.000 euros as neo-pro

Same newspaper also said he was the highest earning neo pro at the moment.

No offense, but wages like that are plain stupid. Certainly isn't the best neo pro in the peloton, by far.

Maybe they should decrease his salary when he crashes or gets sick?

Or they should have never bought him in the first place and offered 400000 euros more on what they were already offering Cancellara :p

money doesnt matter as much to cancellara as friendship as there was no way canc was leaving his friends. He is not as money face as your boy gilbert.

No Phil would never go to a team where he has no support at all. And he can earn as much in every team he goes to, so cash won't be the thing on his mind.

He has more then one brain cell :p I guess that does make him fit in well with the Schlecks though :D

Phil is quite a bit more popular in the peloton than Cancellara by the way. He has friends everywhere like Davide Rebellin, Vinokourov, Thor Hushovd, Tom Boonen, Bjorn Leukemans, Cuddles, Mickaël Delage(who do you think the FDJ guy was helping OPL out at LBL). He can go anywhere and have some friends.

He rather has a good team. Something Mr. Cancellara didn't think of. I bet they're paying him next to nothing at Leopard . Besides no one was saying they had to give that cash to Cancellara, but could also have been given to "friends" of him to drag them into the team as well.

Austria certainly is good Vuelta prep. Wallonie... less so. Tour de l'Ain perhaps?

Tour de Wallonie is used as a Tour replacement. To have something to do for those that are skipping le Tour. But more and more people are going to the Tour de Pologne these days.

Well, Poland only moved to early August a couple of years ago. When it was in September and going against the Vuelta Wallonie was probably the biggest/best race to do in late July-early August kind of time unless you were Vuelta preparing in Burgos. Now, Poland is shortly after it and offers those precious WT points.
