ELB really is some rider! After her epic ride at Binda last weekend, that was some ride again today to hold the peloton off for so long. Shame she couldn't make it stick.

Nicely timed sprint by Vos though. Chapeau!

I wonder what's going on with EF. Woeful at E3, and today they only had two riders finish. Both of which were in the early morning break.
Sickness in the camp maybe?

Too many gels?
I almost had to vomit once when I climbed Tre Cime after eating my Grandma's Gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce, that wasn't exactly a smart idea.:D
"I'm okay. It's my own fault. I wanted to take in so much fuel that I just ate too much. I went so deep on the last climb of Kemmelberg that i couldn't stomach my food. I couldn't keep it inside any longer. "

"When I survived the Kemmelberg, I thought: I'll make it to the finish! But when all my food came out again, I knew it was only a matter of time before I had to let go. I had no energy left and was about to explode. . "

The great question for tomorrow is: will someone from EF manage to finish inside top50?
They've made it! They've made it! Just!

The GV route for women and is underwhelming which created the most boring race day of 2021 - They need the last climb to be around 10kms from the finish for more exciting racing.

Finishing that 5K Tre Cime was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I ate more fettuccini Alfredo Gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce and drank less water than I have in my entire life. People always talk about triumphs of the human spirit. Well, today, I had a triumph of the human body. That's why everybody was applauding for me at the end, my guts and my heart. And while I eventually puked my guts out, I never puked my heart out. I'm very, very proud of that.

Bit annoying having the women's commentary on this thread. Spoilers etc.

I want to be able to read the comments on the aftermath of the men's race without seeing the result of the women's which I want to watch later.

Although very unfortunate for you, the OP did include the women's race as well, so in this case I think it was alright for us to discuss it in here.

Good win for Wout and chapeau to Van Hooydonk for arguably a career best ride that really changed the small group dynamic in Jumbo Vismas favour by finally having support for WVA late on.

Question to ponder is whether winning GW today or his Strade Bianchi win is the more prestigious.

Not much question for me and I’m half Flemish. Strade all the way. G/W is a great race but let’s face it, it’s a warmup for the Ronde, and too similar. Strade is unique, and arguably up there with the monuments at this point. The list of winners is incredible.

What kept you from just watching it live?

It was quite clever by Wout not to go berserk on the final Kemmelberg so that Van Hooydonck could stay on the group.

Even if he had been able to get away alone, it would not have been a given that he could stay away, and then it would have been much more difficult to manage the finale. As it turned out, nobody was really that interested in disrupting the status quo and Van Hooydonck did everything right to serve the race on a platter for Wout. Definitely a career ride from him.
