Tweet from Cedric Vasseur states " L'Equipe " are reporting demise of Geox !

Today final day for teams and riders , so " Musical Chairs "!

Who knew and who are left without a ridenext year ?

Tough for the support team , since they will be left High & Dry !

Mods can move this to " clinic" if that is where i suspect it belongs !

Im not sure where you see that he says L'Equipe are reporting the team is finished..

His tweet says
Bad news..... L'équipe cycliste Geox arrête ! - Velochrono - L'actualité du cyclisme: velochrono.fr/actu/2011/coup…

L'equipe means "the team".. He simply says bad news, Geox team stop and then links to a velochrono article. Nothing to do with L'Equipe, the newspaper. The velochrono article just tells us what everyone else has told us, that the sponsor hasnt provided the bank guarantee.

it's official.can gianetti find other sponsor?don't think so
astana be fast and get cobo,de la fuente, duarte and valls.fast!

They'd have to arrange for a few more "retirements" among their Kazakh riders...

I wonder if another team (with a secure WT license) might be able to grab the Geox sponsorship money? They're really a good sponsor to have in the sport.

A really good sponsor wouldn't pull the plug at the 11th hour like this, leaving many employees, not just riders, out in the cold. I'm sure Cobo, Menchov, and some others won't have trouble finding spots but the rest and the support staff...

The sad part is that the riders have now to sign undervalued contracts as a)most teams are full and b)their points dont count for the license ranking anymore...if they had announced this just a week ago...Cobo just signed a contract..this is really some clownish atuff by Geox

+1

Which teams have space on their rosters? Saxo Bank for one... maybe Lotto but they seem to be after Belgian/Northern European riders.

This is a chance for the UCI to do the right thing by the riders stuck in a bad situation and allow them to take their points with them to try to find new teams. Its not their fault Geox has decided to quit and not fulfill their obligations; and this might also encourage some solid pro continental teams to pick up some riders to perhaps move up a level.

Good riddance to bad rubbish*.

*Providing they can't find a sponsor.
Whilst I understand your feelings regarding Gianetti and Matxin, that's pretty harsh on the riders and support staff don't you think? Coming at this late stage, many of them will have great difficulty finding employment for next year.

Bjarne Riis will be laughing all the way to the bank now that he can pick up very good domestiques for Contador for almost no money at all! Imagine Duarte destroying the field for Contador...

I think the cycling news forum should have a whip round to see if we can sponsor the team for next season, it could be fun tactics can be decided from the posts in the race thread.

I'm sorry if it came across as harsh to the riders and staff, I was meaning to refer to the team management, not the riders. Hopefully they'll find homes, even if it's not at the top level.

It's got nothing to do with doping... it's a money issue. The company Geox hasn't transfered the money to the UCI, and the deadline was today. The cycling team itself are mighty ****ed at the company.

they should be ****ed at gianetti for last year screwing geox over when they wanted to fire him but refused tolet go of the license on his name

Geox wants to sponsor Vettel and Red Bull at F1

that has nothing todo with it. geox out of cycli9ng is 100% because of gianetti. 10 million is nothing for geox especially not compared to f1

Shame for the riders, another 50 people that have to find a job during the off-season :/ I'm hoping Felline gets a good contract somewhere especially
