they should be ****ed at gianetti for last year screwing geox over when they wanted to fire him but refused tolet go of the license on his name
Demonic as Gianetti may be, he can hardly be blamed for not allowing himself to be fired by the company which had agreed to sponsor his team. It's pathetic by Geox really.

Eh, depends. Gianetti probably guaranteed they'd be WT, and then it was obvious *he* was the reason why the team wasn't WT.

A really good sponsor wouldn't pull the plug at the 11th hour like this, leaving many employees, not just riders, out in the cold. I'm sure Cobo, Menchov, and some others won't have trouble finding spots but the rest and the support staff...

A really good sponsor expected to get a World Tour license last year and ride the TdF. Maybe they got the word that the team will be passed over again.

gianetti promised them to be wt, when he failed geox wanted him out and gianetti refused. so yeah the riders should balme gianetti, this could've been seen from beginning of year when geox and gainetit were having big fights over this. of course a sponsor isn';t continuing with a manager they despise

gianetit wasn't the reaosn they weren't getting wt, they simply had a lack of points, miscalculation by gianetti

It wasn't Gianetti's fault. Bruyneel is the dirtiest manager in the sport and the UCI did not have a problem giving him a license. He was heading a U.S. team, though. The UCI is using licenses to expand the sport outside of the countries that traditionally act as cycling's support base.

But points weren't everything, and Geox expected to get in and ride the Tour.

No if they didn't match the top 15 they wouldn't have been taken as WT team and thus wouldn't have made it to the Tour de France.

ASO would never give them a WC if they had the choice...

This and teams from china or the middle east wont be long in coming.

Also I've always wondered why a big sponsor like Geox decided to sponsor this horribly managed team, with very bad reputation, instead of HTC for example. Makes absolutely no sense.

Did I say it was about doping per se? No, it was about PR and personal enmity.

Cobos late season resurrection now seems even more suspicious, Gianetti knew that the sword was hanging over their heads..now theres a depressed guy on his team who might not care about a possible suspension anymore...

+1
I don't recall a sponsor or team ever quitting this late in the year. Somewhere, either within the Geox team management or the parent sponsor, there's some pathetically disorganized duds (not dudes) that couldn't see this coming sooner. Nice one Geox.

Well, maybe. But at the time the deal was made nobody knew on what basis the WT places were going to be given out, did they?

If Geox were determined to stop because of Gianetti, they should have made that clear earlier. Leaving it this late is inexcusable.

One thing I can't understand, is how some could be happy to see a team tragically folding, leaving many riders and staff without a contract. I don't care about Ginanetti and the team's past. It's not the issue here.

After Radio Shack did the same thing a month ago, it does not seem out of the ordinary.

Indeed. They could at least have announced it earlier so their riders would have a chance to find new teams. I certainly won't be buying Geox shoes in the future!

astana be fast and get cobo,de la fuente, duarte and valls.fast!

No, Saxo needs to be fast. Astana still is a bad team with or without buying these cyclists. They have no big winner in their team only cyclists who should be domestiques for a high calibre cyclist. Vino perhaps, but he's old and coming back from a heavy injury...

Menchov to Katusha, Cobo to Movistar seems logical to me. What Geox did was pretty low.

Yea, cos Cobo did so well last time he was at Abarcá. By most accounts he didn't get on with many of the people there and they didn't know how to handle him either.
