The Femur will be stronger after the op - the plate and the screws and the bone natural healing.

As I said before the muscle lose is the problem

Unfortunately, I know this through experience (I broke my left femur badly). By the time I was able to put weight on my leg, the muscle had pretty much wasted away. I am left footed and my left leg was always stronger than my right leg. It took a long time for me to build the muscle back up. One possible advantage is that my right leg has become stronger to compensate, and now I have a better balance of power. More good news: I'm cycling as much if not more than I ever did (although I'm a middle aged low powered diesel tourer).

One break is not the same as the other, although 6 months of rehab seems comparable to my case. But, as a younger professional athlete, I'm sure that Gesink's powers of recuperation will be better than mine. Whatever leg he broke, it will certainly affect his balance of power. I wish him a successful recovery.

I broke my elbow and dislocated my wrist in the same injury when I was young and since then I lost my ability to throw at speed with my right hand, i'm a natural leftie but could throw with both. It isn't necessary at all that an operation makes a bone stronger.

How does the Ulna, radius and Humerus help to throw ?

It creates the long of lever thats it. The joint and the muscle are more important.

So if you broke your elbow you affected the Joint - which will effect throwing if you break the bone mid-shaft it would not have the same problem.

Joints are different from Bone- A surgically plated long Bone will be structurally stronger .

I can't really understand the article accompanied with his link to the picture of the rod next to his leg.
Did he break the femur, or did he break the femoral neck?
Speaking from experience, if he broke the femoral neck, the road to recovery will be a long hard one. Huge imbalances will occur causing severe pains.
Broke mine in 2007(3 ti screws inserted), while I wasn't an elite racer, the loss in power, form, endurance, and muscle was huge and psychologically very damaging. Getting dropped by people you normally dropped was tough.
I did my PT exactly as prescribed and still had problems.
I really wish him the best of luck... and hope it wasn't the femoral neck.

That's because he's so skinny. It's his own fault, sorry but that's the way it is.

I guess Fat Tony never breaks anything because he has some muscle and fat on him.:p

Are you sure he meant that rather than let's hope he gets better?

lol. were talking about ryo right?

Him hoping gesink's injury is bad might seem farfetched, but ryo hoping and wishing the best for gesink is simply not possible.
