Getting in the mood for La Vuelta

I've started my pre-Grand Tour perusing of the internet so that I can get the parcours firmly in my mind before the race begins but, as always, I'm a bit disappointed with the amount of information out there. The main Vuelta website is very poor, as are most other sites I've come across looking for stage info. There seems to be loads of discrepancies between routes, distances to be covered, and the categorisation of climbs.

I enjoy my road cycling, though I'm not an avid fan. As the pinnacle of the sport, why are these races not promoted better, so that casual fans like me can find out fairly basic info about the race? It begins in less than two weeks and the route has been unveiled for many months - I'm amazed that more information hasn't been made available, or that obvious errors on La Vuelta website haven't been corrected.

I had the same issue before the Tour, though to a lesser degree. Does anyone have any tips for good guides to the race?

is there an official road book of vuelta i guess...
pdf version?
i know that giro and tour ones were very good this year.

jens_attacks - I didn't know the official roadbooks were publically available. I'd love to see one for La Vuelta.

To me it seems that the race will be wo between the 2 rest days, it comes down to the size of the gaps that the itt on stage 10 will create and if the big winner of that stage (probably Froome and maybe to a lesser extend Uran) will be able to stay with the best climbers at least untill the 2nd rest day.

I'm a bit calmer today and realise I was exaggerating a bit by moaning that there is no 'basic info' out there. There are quite a few sites that have basic info, it's really more detailed and nerdier info I am after.

The official road book sounds ideal and I'd be very grateful if anyone can post a link if and when they come across it (I'll keep keeping an eye out too). Does anyone know if there is a usual time-frame for it being released?

Yep, this route with 3 TTs will favour the likes of Froome and/or Uran. The Colombian made huge improvements on his TT-skills in the wind-tunnel with Specialized during the winter.

Hopefully something emerges in the next few days

I can't find any confirmation of points allocations, mountain points allocations (is there a Cima Alberto Fernandez climb this year ?), elimination cut-off times, which stages have the 3 km rule in place etc. Perhaps they're still deciding :eek:
