Gilbert needs to Cross over

Wouldn't it be good to see someone with his abilities 'cross over' to the mud and go head to head with Nys and Stybar? He is Belgian!

Gilbert did ride 'cross at one time. You can still see evidence of this in the elegant way he does bike changes. :)

Real pros don't do cross. Cross is only for the riders who couldn't make it on the road.

Try to keep up.

You know, the way Gilbert is riding this year, he could ride backwards in his next race and still beat 99% of the field. It's quite impressive what he has done this year. It's one thing to be great during one period of the year, like the spring classics, but to keep it going right through the TDF, where he won a stage and was contending for quite a few of the other stages and actually climbing within the top 3rd in the high mtns, it is really impressive. I wonder what he will do now, in the lead up to worlds. Will he ride the Vuelta? IMO, he probably wont, he'll be saving himself for worlds, but you never know. I also wonder if he considers going for the GC of a GT in the future, now that he has won pretty much every one day classic. This is the sort of rider i like, somebody who shows up to win, not just sandbag and focus on the TDF (like Armstrong and the Schlecks the last couple of years). He has certainly brought a new meaning to the word 'dominant' this year. Great stuff!

Real cyclist can do it all. Maybe you'll figure that out someday, but not likely.

Definitely makes cycling worth watching, unlike, and I say this as an American, the d@#$ce bag Armstrong.

he isnt planning on doing the Vuelta ...

is doing the 2 classics in Canada chasing World Tour points. He said basically he can get more points by winning these classics and Lombardy than doing Vuelta.

He wants to finish No. 1 so needs a bit more to beat Evans

I have a pic of him at the Belgian 2007 in the book "Van Thijs tot Nys", a history of the Belgian Nats.

So you start a thread about Gilbert racing cross to which Terminator responds with one of his typically dooshy posts.

I can only assume that you are either trying to pick a fight, limited in reading comprehension skills, or just plain not very bright. In any case have a nice day.:D

First time I post on this site, and this is what I get? From someone who didn't even respond about the post, just a dumbass remark about one of the posters? So, who is trying to pick a fight?

Hacklera, Hugh's response that you are getting offended by was to Terminator, not you.

Hugh is/was on your side with that statement that again, was NOT directed at you.

Hope this clears that up.

With respect to Gilbert riding cross, it would be cool to see him fighting at the front of a few races, but I wouldn't want him riding all season for two reasons.

1) He may screw up the following Road season.
2) If he dominates like he did in April (not saying he would, I said if) I would find that very boring.

2) If he dominates like he did in April (not saying he would, I said if) I would find that very boring.

That wasn't so hard to follow was it?;)

Gilbert is heads above Boom on the road and I believe that Lars would dominate cross if he went back to concentrating on it. The Gilbert cross results seem to suggest that for whatever reason he is not a front runner. Focus? Skills? He makes Trebon and Powers look pretty good, though.
