Of course they wont include it. Usually it would undergo 3 or 4 years in the wilderness thought they might bring it back for 100th edition celebrations.

Too much flat between Stelvio and Mortirolo imo. Same after Mortirolo. I think they wouldnt race up either thereby wasting both mountains imo.

It would make Gavia trickier but they have those snow problems and broadcast problems and what not and they didnt race up it last time.

If you want early climbs to do some damage, make em like 15 this year, hard, steep but not the TDF mistake of putting Tourmalet 80km from the finish. Personally i would prefer to see Mortirolo and Stelvio being used not neccesarily as mtf's but max 30km from the finish kom.

will Alpe D'Huez be a stage or MTT ?

I think it will be a stage seeing as they are remembering Coppi's victory there 60 years ago.

with regards to the alpe, cool but............. i don't like the idea that the giro might be looking for name recognition with july fans. i certainly wouldn't want it to be a habit. there's no shortage of mountains in italy so borrowing legendary tdf climbs might devalue the giro brand.

Why not a stage with Stelvio - Mortirolo - Gavia then?

Gavia (2600m) + Stelvio (2750m) + Kleinboden/Schafseck (2250m) = murder. 3 brutal climbs and hardly any flat. You know a GC rider will attack in the descent of the Stelvio, if not before. Almost guaranteed.

I don't like the Gavia-Stelvio-Kleinboden because that would mean using the easy side of the Stelvio, which I see as a waste (they climb it rarely, at least use the proper side)

Glandon is probably the nearest big climb to Alpe d'Huez and it's still almost 40k from the top of Glandon to the start of the climb. Even the Giro can't fix that.

Glandon is probably the nearest big climb to Alpe d'Huez and it's still almost 40k from the top of Glandon to the start of the climb. Even the Giro can't fix that.

I realise they will never have Alpe coming straight off a descent, but they could probably do better to front load it. This year's stage isn't bad, but a bigger climb before Telegraphe/Galibier would have made it harder. 2008 they did the easy side of Galibier and maybe one other?

What I want from the 2012 Giro-

- No TTT
- Prologue (confirmed)
- More sprinter's stages (4/5 in the first 10 days and 2 in the final week, including the final stage to encourage them to stay in).
- Stade Bianche
- Only 1 TT, but it being a long and undulating TT similar to 2009.
- Less Mountain top finishes 4/5 at most.
- At least one finish immediately following a descent of a big climb.
- 1 epic dolomite stage similar to stage 15 this year.
- Passo Stelivo
- No Zoncolan

Until Zomegnan is in charge, this will never happen. He stated that the final stage will always be a TT.

Stelvia would be nice, and I'd rather keep it all Italian rather than add the Alpe d'Huez.
