No wonder, given how he cracked in the extremely easy last week of this years Vuelta. Put some real mountains in the 3rd week and he's done, unfortunately.

Tuttosport confirms the rumours about stage 19...

Treviso - Alpe Di Pampeago, 184 kms

Passo Manghen, Passo Di Pampeago (I traced it by hand, so the profile is not exact), Passo Lavazè and the final 4 kms of L'Alpe Di Pampeago.

They will make the Giro harder then the other GT's like it's supposed to be. They just cut the travelling distance and probably won't have 9 MTF's etc.

What makes you think there's a correlation between hard stages and "clinic issues"? People dope for all kinds of stages, all kinds of sports. I really don't think a clean rider would look at this profile and then just decide to start doping after all.

I can sympathise with Fuglsang. I would find it painful to climb Aprica yet alone Tonale. You would have to pay me a million just to get my bike onto the Stelvio, and nothing can get me to try the Mortirolo.

Yes hes a pro but after 19 stages this stage would be insane.

After 19 Giro stages it will be horrid.

The brave souls who make it as professionals in this thing of ours are some of the hardest men in history.

Anyone who is even at the start-line of a Grand Tour deserves praise.

I am looking forward to this stage already but if one of these heroes is willing to admit that it strikes the fear of god into him, he is in my eyes no less a man.

I'm so tired of cyclists *****ing and crying about the routes of races. Do something else if you don't want to ride it. Otherwise shut up and do your job, you're getting paid well enough to do it.

I think that stage 20 looks wonderful, but again suggests that a GT will be majorly back ended. Could be one of the best stages ever, but they will need to be careful not to make the rest of the 3 weeks overly difficult like last year. More TT could spice up stage 20 further, with the climbers attacking from the bottom of Mortirolo (or even on the climb prior) to make up big time. Really looking forward to see all the parcours revealed for Giro and Tour this month.

I don't see any problem with cyclists complaining about that stage. The Giro is known for pushing the boundaries and they've done so again.

Personally I think it's too tough or too late. Having a 218km penultimate stage is more to do with the Giro making sure it remains the toughest GT than it is about exciting racing. It's just mean.
