Maybe co-leader with Martin (see who has better legs through the first week) and then leader for Vuelta.

I don't think Hesjedal is crazy about the idea of not doing the two Cannadian races and after winning the Giro he probably want's to see how good he can be in France. He probably knows that he needs to be on whole new level to win in July, but he probably feels that a podium is at least possible.

Sarcasm. Actually made me spill my coffee!!

My sarcasm radar was obviously closed for maintenance. Movistar will whip him into shape and will explain to him how you ride as a domestique in the 21st century. They might show him a video first. I think Sanchez would have been a better buy. But BMC saw what other teams didn't.

Phil Deignan has broken a collarbone in training. If he's still able to make the Giro starting line (and let's face it the single biggest reason they signed him was to have a prominent Irish rider at the Giro), he's unlikely to have much form. This leaves Porte's support looking very threadbare, unless Sky reshuffle the climbing domestique duties between Giro and Tour.

how serious was the crash? with a broken collarbone one usually would have time to reach very good form in over 2 months.

It's possible. He says it's more mobile and feels better than when he broke his other one before, so he hopes that's an indication that he can get back on the bike faster. He still hopes to be right for the Giro, but it doesn't sound ideal.

Stickybottle.com has an article about it up.

yea, cause Pozzato for example was back up on his bike within a week after his collarbone injury a couple of years ago (probably not as serious though)

He'll be able to ride in 2 weeks. Collarbone break is not that bad injury for cyclists i.e. see Voeckler broke at TDU, already rode at Tour of Med..

Both Henao and Nieve doing Tour only..

So Froome is going to get Henao, Nieve, Wiggins, Kennaugh, Thomas, Eisel, Boasson-Hagen, Siutsov

Thats a bit unfair when Porte will be left with Cataldo, Deignan, Kiryienka, Knees, Lopez, Stannard, Swift, Pate

If Porte gets the Pink jersey early, he will struggle controlling the race with that lineup imo. Not enough strength in the mountains.

Lets say Sky can managed to keep Porte away from the jersey until the first TT on stage 12, well that still gives the team a major task.

Don't think Porte will ever be in pink, Quintana and Rodriguez are too punchy for him.

But you gotta plan for a win surely. Otherwise why even bother.

Sky are hoping rather than planning for a Giro win otherwise they would have given Porte more mountain doms, Froome gets Henao, Nieve, Wiggins, Kennaugh and maybe even Porte himself if he's not tired.

Just another prove of SKY not giving a sh!t about Porte & Il Giro at all.....

The situation would have been different have either Wiggo or Froome decided to race it though....

If Porte wasnt at Sky he'd be at Orica where he would have Chaves, Santaromita and Weening. Not much better ..

And the Sky team, I expect Dombrowski there.

Won't be the first team to heavily prioritize the tour.

True, but then Porte would be going to the Tour where other teams will likely control the race for the most part.

Quintana only a bit over 50%? Let's be real for a minute: Porte's quiver full of marginal gains notwithstanding, Quintana is going to utterly crush this field; it is going to be the best show since RoboBasso.
