Lutsenko and Iglinsky out of the giro.
British screw up. Honestly who will be riding this race? Saxo is having the same troubles with Beltran and a couple of other guys too.

Our laws regarding visa's/work permits ect are quite relaxed compared to some countries however leaving it until 2 weeks ago to try and get this sorted is very naive from the teams. It takes 2-3 weeks just for me to get a new passport let alone a foreign national outside the EU who is not known.

Zeits got in from germany, so obviously some people are lazy

I've not heard of similar problems with other nations, and I do believe they race in quite a number of different countries these days. Perhaps you can blame it on the EU. What the British do themselves, they do best eh.

Grand Tours should stop doing these forced, commercial and fake detours.

It all comes down to the riders not being in the EU doesn't it? At the end of the day it is the teams management that is to blame for not sorting this out earlier. How long ago did they announce that the Giro depart would start in N Ireland?

“We are disappointed to leave two of Kazakhstan’s brightest cycling federation riders off the World Tour Giro roster, and find silence and the non-response of the British Embassy in Paris such a contrast to the efficient work done by their colleagues in Germany for our processed and registered Kazakh rider Andrey Zeits.”

It is the embassys fault

Applying for a visa 3 weeks before you're due to arrive is Mickey Mouse. Sorry for the riders, but no sympathy for the team management

nah, 3 weeks are more than enough, for god sake, those people are not touring britain, they are only participating a sporting event. There is no reason to doubt that they will stay in UK after the event. If UK is hosting an olympic event, I doubt they will deny any olympian's visa even if there is only a week left to apply.

What can we expect form Robert Kiserlovski?

Being a rare cycling fan in Croatia (by rare i mean almost the only one) i really hope he can finally live up to the potential he displayed in the 2010 giro. Last year he looked really good in the early part of the giro (if we ignore the absolute dog **** of his TT performance). I think he messed up by riding Romandie last year full gas and peaking too early, so he had nothing in the tank for the last week.

Also another thing to note is that his TT improved a lot, he was around 30th place in the hilly tirreno TT close to ACs time, which was a pleasent surprise to me.

I guess i would be ecstatic if he finished in the top 10, but i wont hope for too much since he has had so many frustrating performances i wouldnt be able to count them all. Wouldnt be surprised at all if Zoidl or Arredondo take over the captains role as the race progreses.

And a side note - the team time trial looks very scary for this years Trek team, horrible TT squad

Tinkoff got problem too.

Surely Ireland/GB (not sure who would be in charge) wants this enough that they'd be willing to make a special Giro Visa Taskforce.

Hahaha. No. With the way the government is penny pinching, definitely not going to happen.

Sorry but British consulates are being extra-picky with Giro riders.
This is a first level international event that goes to North Ireland and Ireland because they pay to present the race there.
The teams are only 22 and their lineups are constantly changing according to sickness/injuries/form/goal settings.
Riders might be using their passports to compete in a different country (in Team Colombia's case, British consulate kept the passports for so long that the team was not able to make it to Turkey), hence this procedure should be expedite (and it was paid as such).
Pro-rider backgrounds are easy to check.
Other nations use blanket visa schema for companies (where companies are held accountable for employee violations whose visa is granted under such program).

Yeah, that was the most recent that I had seen, and no further word in 5 (now 6) days is why I was asking whether there has been any progress in the matter.

Spanish as a language is not good, as I recall, at distinguishing between hope and expectation, so the quote above is ambiguous.

Do we have any word on whether this is an optimistic hope that is out of their hands with no real evidence that the matter is being expedited by the UK Border Agency, or whether it is a confident expectation based on reassurance and commitments from those in a position to make such?

(Answering my own question, lest anyone else was asking it)
Not an explicit answer, but Corti speaking yesterday with no apparent reservation or fear of exclusion.

Better news than other visa related stuff yesterday.

Since Beltran and Trusov were removed yesterday.

Thanks, doing a little searching and he's been talking about doing it pretty much from the moment he was cleared to ride again.
