Giro could be sold due to RCS debts

A report in Italian financial newspaper Milano Finanza has suggested that RCS Sport, the Italian company that organises the Giro d’Italia, could be sold in an attempt to shore up the finances of parent company RCS Media Group.

RCS Sport is the second biggest race organiser in professional cycling after Tour de France organiser ASO, and so any eventual sale could significantly change the balance of power amongst leading race organisers in professional cycling.

The obvious potential bidders are the ASO, if they think they can do a good job more power too them.

-10 mtf's
-stage 19 is a mtf on the zoncolan
-stage 20 a MTT also on the Zoncolan, because the giro has to learn how to use their famous climbs perfectly, like the ASO does

To be fair to ASO, they made a route that some consider better than the Giro this year. RCS also isnt allergic to MTF's ad libitum, see 2014. That said it would obviously be sad to see RCS out of the game.

ASO haven't changed the identity of the Vuelta, I don't think that they'd really change the Giro that much.

Yet I'm reading frequently about the Vuelta's modern lack of identity and/or irrelevance...

Yet we all talk about those unipublic-stages that we dislike and the fact that the Vuelta has a huge amount of uphill finishes, it has his own identity, it's just not a great identity.
Before 2010 a normal Vuelta used to have 2 middle length ITTs, I'll give you that.
Irrrelevance? Just look at the startlist of the last 2 Vueltas, maybe not evveryone was in top shape but they had 3 of the big 4, Valverde, Purito and Aru in both occasions, that's one hell of a startlist, Vegni would probably sell his mother to get such a strong field and so many big names.
ASO controlling all the GTs isn't great, but Velon seem to be even bigger clowns, their ideas are a joke.

Vuelta has been the coolest GT many times in the last few years. Absolutely didn't suffer on ASO's watch IMHO.

Buying RCS Sport would, aside from total GT domination, also mean ASO would control all monuments (except Flanders). They could (and likely would) create their own league if they wanted to and we would barely miss a race (if the other organizers wouldn't join en rather die alone).

None of the Flemish races are organised by ASO, nor by RCS. Like 99% of the cycling calendar. Where's the monopoly?

Of big dollah races.
i.e Tour, giro, vuelta which generate most of the money in cycling. Flanders races... there aren't any big money races (bar ofc GW, E3, ToF and to a lesser extent Omloop, Scheldeprijs, Brabantse and Kuurne) despite the many races.

That's got nothing to do with good planning by ASO but more to do with dumb luck, the stage design has been average (outside of the medium mountain stage that Dumoulin cracked), just look at the opening beach stage that was neutralised in this years race. The Vuelta has had good racing in spite of the course thanks to big name riders being injured during the year and going to the Vuelta as a back up.
I don't think it would be healthy for all 3 GT's being owned by the same group but I doubt the Giro will be sold, as has already been mentioned in this thread that this story comes out almost every year and nothing ends up happening.
