I approve of Alpecin's ride so far. It was worth a shot and I think Merlier felt it. Then afterwards, the damage was already done and it made no sense to kill the team on the flat.

Also Alpecin drilled it on the climb to see if they could tire out or drop other sprinters, so Groves can win the stage. TBC if it works, but makes sense as Groves is very much not favourite against Merlier or Milan in a straight up sprint. After that, you may as well keep it together until the sprint.
