???

They have their best card in the group up ahead with a teammate and against favourable opposition. What more could they have got out of it so far?

Think he means that it looks like this break will get caught soon and then their best card is done for. But I would say that's just unlucky.

Why are Ryan Mullen and Daan Hoole riding to actively cost their team any chance today? Is it just stubbornness and overconfidence?

There is no guarantee that Alpecin aren't doing this for intermediate sprint points
Obviously nothing to do with it. Groves doesn't even have a chance at overtaking Milan anymore. Hermans is in the break now and Conci is also one of the favorites for this stage.

I think it looked as promising as it could at that point 12 minutes ago when you wrote that it didn't seem to work.

And Valter is in the second group now.
They had 15 seconds and a full peloton chasing. Dont think they were doing much of what you said. Or that they were doing so well.

There's gonna be some DS telling their team to ride knowing this is their last chance.

I must say pretty smart from QS, Movistar, Jayco and Alpecin. They chased till the one hill you could make a difference on and they all have their preferred guy in it.
