Giro di Lombardia changes date in 2012 - RCS, please stand up with me (us?)

UCI is destroying the legend of Lombardia. It was the last hurray of the season, the pinnacle of the autumn, a race for the tough guys that just didn't wanna give in to holidays. It's been on the calendar since 1905, always been held in October or even November.

Now, because the UCI is filling its pants with Chinese mon... sorry, because the UCI is looking to globalize cycling in a constructive manner, it is being moved forward to September, the UCI decides.

I refuse. Let's refuse, all of us. I hope the RCS will join us. This is no longer talk about which teams make the ****ty internal ranking or not, this is destroying a legendary cycling monument by taking away one of its core values: being the last race of the season.

Actually I'm gonna send exactly this text to the UCI and open a new topic here. It's my favourite race, I have extremely fond memories of it and I loathe to see the UCI treating it as a race that has to move a way so the ****ing Tour of Beijng can not work again, but this time on an important date.

Please RCS, don't let this slip away from you. Don't let Pat McQuaid destroy a cycling monument, and the whole classic Italian autumn for that matter. HELP US AND REFUSE.

nothing is destroyed.everyone goes to beijing just for some good cash and a ride in the smog.that cursed race can be the last, it won't matter.it's better this way.
and lombardia will have better startlist because everyone is fit after the worlds.
might be one of the best things uci did regarding the schedules

end of september, the leaves are still falling...everyone come in form for a true monument and then go for the beijing cursed country vacation.no drama.

Problem is also Giro d'Emilia, Piemonte etc etc. what's gonna happen with them when now part of their purpose is stay in shape for Lombardia, and some of those races provide great entertainment in the process.

Also, some things can't be changed. They just can't. Lombardia belongs in October. Simple as that.

Indeed.

**** the UCI. Once again.

The real reason is the hope that some of the top riders will turn up in Beijing for points for the WorldTour rankings.

UCI is a disaster or a federation, and the teams are absolute suckers for letting this happen. But then they are still part of cycling's problem as much as the UCI.

What a monumental feck up. (poor pun, I know)
If anything they want to put the race back into the tail end of October.
The calender is already too cluttered and in the age of expanding seasons, ($$$$) it's an obvious way to release fixture pressure.
So, maybe the UCI should start a race re-naming competition?
I'll go with: "The Race of The Last of the Summer Wine".:rolleyes::mad:

This. ****ing UCI!

this is just another example of "money" doing the talking- UCI is clearly getting paid "too well" in China, so they just decided to move the calender around so they can keep the "china cash cow" alive and running for a while-even at the expense of "monuments" such Lombardy being moved without any regard...

fvck you Pat & UCI:mad:

What I don't really get about these decisions is: nobody wants this, except for the old farts counting their dough up in the UCI office. Why does the cycling world still put up with these clowns?

What can we do? Can we actually do something.

We might wanna notify the RCS and hope they want to stand up. Because its getting ridiculous, the power struggle of the UCI seems to be endless. It started with the ProTour and I was so happy that ASO and RCS stood up and opposed at some point. They are the only ones capable of doing so, but their first interest is making money obviously. You won't be making money by going in politcs, that's for sure. But now again RCS money is at stake so I put my trust on them.

Like I said, without those powerhouses cycling would be a nightmare. UCI would be the sole organization in command. The opposition from ASO and RCS in 2007 (was it?) was a huge set back to their take over of control, it basically cost them four years to redesign their struggle for power and now they have it again with the WorldTour stupidity and internal ethical bull****. Now they're going in the attack mode against the last hordes left and this time not immediately the biggest events but against Lombardia.

Reaction will be interesting to say the least.

100% This.

I can't imagine what insanely good place the Russian new race is going to get in 2013 with all the money being put into that race...

$$$$$$$ makes the world go round, as proven by the UCI

Well said.
Moving Lombardia is blasphemy in my eyes. Moving any of the 5 Monuments is.

What would people say if Paris-Roubaix would be held the weekend before Milano-San Remo?
I'm quite speechless.

yeah i've heard tour of sochi will be world tour in the same period with basque country?that it will be a major fucc up,i think the prizes for the winner will be something like 100,000 euros everyone will go there.

@Vaughters:
''...@micacquarone HUGE thanks to RCS for listening to the PCC and moving the Lombardia date up a little! You will get a more exciting race!''

@wegelius:
''In my humble opinion: Lombardia earlier is a good thing. Such a race deserves quality field and less jaded riders desperate for a holiday.''

Seems some people agree with the change. Personally I wish they'd just left it, fine how it was and a great way to end the season.

to be honest, if youre more interested on going on holiday then you shouldnt be riding lombardy anyway.

And what does charlie know? Hes retired

no doubt that lombardia will be raced in a stronger form but i don't know what to say about the semilclassics that prepare it,the startlists will be weakier no doubt.still i think one year of testing won't harm much.
i just can't see a race without any spectators or audience surviving more than 2-3 years
