I would like to go back to EF Drapac team and their tactics and display in today's stage. What the **** was that?!!!
First they missed the break, then they burned all their riders in the chase to allow Michael Woods, 12th in the GC some 30-40 sec from top 10, to attack from 70km out on a stage which finish suits him just fine, just to see him losing more than 4 minutes and ending miles away from top 10.
Their DS should be fired on the spot.

Agree 100%, and they've done this a whole bunch of times in all kinds of WT races in the last few years - miss the break, put the whole team on the front to pull (maybe get some publicity shots for sponsors out of it?), leave it to one guy to try something from way out who fails miserably.

They have delusions of grandeur - the current squad has nothing in common with the Garmin guys who used to win monuments, one week stage races, TTTs, ITTs, sprint stages, even a GT when the stars aligned. They are a Pro Conti team dressed up as a World Tour one.

I wonder what that means for the TT. So Yates 35.7km/h for the last 3,5km, Dumoulin 37,2.. 330 vs 390W after a super tough stage

Yates is lighter
But the TT is pretty much flat

Very true. I guess I meant for that climb of course Dumoulin would have to push out even more watts. Even when it’s flat he’ll need to. But of course he has an advantage tomorrow.

And with the TT being flat, it's more about absolute watts than w/kg.. You do know that right?
Obviously Dumoulin always has to put more absolute watts in to compete uphill.

Aye I expect 1.5 to 2 minutes in the TT in favour of Dumoulin, its a pure specialist power TT. Although unless Yates has a bad day somewhere with the mountains that remain and his current form it's hard to see him losing the race.

I'd make two comments after this stage. Firstly, Yates' body language in the finale of both yesterday and today was that he was suffering. He was suffering in the final 1.5km or so on the Zoncolan and today he looked hunched and pained for the last 4km or so. Is he going too deep?

Secondly, the ITT is after tomorrow's rest day. Someone notable always has a bad day after the rest day. It could be Yates.

Wegelius is a horrible DS, him a Piva at BMC are problably the worst on the big teams and most of the more seasoned posters on this forum could do a better job.
At least we got to experience a hard tempo early on on thr Tre Croci.
I really liked the stage, San Antonio and Costalissolo are some of my training climbs, and I was almost right with Aru loosing 25min or pulling a Morzine.

Dekker Tifosi sounds like a very broken and tilted man :D

Don't think you can blame Cara and Lopez for sitting on wheels - it was Pozzo, Pinot and especially Dumos job to close that one down. It was a great final, all in all I just enjoyed the whole stage.

Yates is an uncanny combo between Riccó and Purito with rouleur skills. Scary strong.

Haha, how has Yates acquired a middle name, yet we don't also see "Christopher Clive Froome"?

Tilted? Are you crazy? More like resigned. But I was already like that for the last 2 mt stages. Yates is just too strong

Your original comment was “I wonder what that means for the TT”. I Was just saying nothing extra special probably. Of course he pushes out more watts because he’s heavier and going up hill.

That said of course he has an advantage tomorrow.

That applies the same for the others.

Yates is clearly head and shoulders above the level of everyone else. Unless he has a bad day in the TT he will limit his losses. And then we have the remaining mountain stages.

The last week is hard, the day after the ITT we have a stage that has an uncategorized climb that is 10km at 5.5% right at the start, that will make the first part of the race pretty hard and should hurt right after the ITT, then 3 consecutive mountain stages.
The race has been really hard until now, so I wouldn't surprised if 2 or 3 riders in the top 10 would blow up, probably just guys near the lower end of the top 10, but you never know.

This one was a great stage. It was a great design anyway. Also Yates being very superior in the mountains is making for a great race because Dumoulin has to defend himself.

Some comments about the stage:

- Poels coming forward again as the great domestique to Froome. But I think Froome was already done. This was just the confirmation.
- What was Dumoulin thinking when he was asking Lopez and Carapaz for rotation? This is starting to annoy me a lot with his complaining on the road. They has absolutely no reason to help him. Deal with it. Put the shirt of the favorite and do the work yourself instead of looking for help all the time.
- What were Pinot and Pozzo thinking? especially when Pozzo was arguing to Carapaz for help. Similar situation with Dumoulin. Do the work yourself with Pinot because you just dropped Dumoulin, your direct adversary for the podium. They rode rather silly here and they let Dumoulin get back. Carapaz and Lopez are 2 minutes down on GC from you.

I thought radios was going to help these riders with their tactics but it isn't.

Oh well. Great stage anyway! :)

Resigned is probably more accurate then. Yates is obviously incredibly strong, but winning the Giro with 4-5 min?..

I still say the race isnøt over. Things can happen on Finestre, but it will be very hard, especially since MS has the strongest team.

Notice something? From the moment Dumoulin got dropped and had to ride on his own onwards he gained ten seconds on Yates. Today he didn't ride like someone who wants to win the giro more than anything else
Of course because when he is with others he is wasting too much time asking for help all the time. Especially the ones that have no business working with him. Lol.

Yates can definitely win by 5 minutes if he rides a great ITT and the likes of Pozzo, Pinot and MAL get rid of Dumoulin on the Finestre.

And if you've seen the interview Dumoulin is far from butthurt. He'd wanted them to work together but understands that they don't. Stating he was better off TT'ing to the line was just a thowaway example of how bad the cooperation was, not really a diss to other riders.

To borrow from Bavarianrider, the tarmac is good and the section in the Ledro valley is quite rolling except for a few ramps. I would be very very surprised if someone gets caught out there even in week 3 after the TT.

I don't think he is attacking like he did today if he doesn't have to the last 2 days. I think its an overreaction which is bound in disappointment over how things developed. But yeah, sure, if he isn't dropping the slightest in level and just want everybody and their mom to know who is boss, it can happen.

I didn't say anything about Dumo btw, just commented on DT saying that Carapaz was a tool or something like that when he didn't want to cooperate.

Yeah, probably, but it's gonna be a hard start and not just and easy stage for the sprinters that allows you to have a really easy day before the final mountain stages.

LOL.

Need to keep the emotions in check!

Carapaz has no business in helping the others for the fight in GC. He wants white and his fight is with Lopez. Not with the others. The same applies for Lopez. At this point and after the TT his fight is white also.
