If I'm Astana I put a couple of riders in the early break and then make Pello attack on Tre Croci. Put pressure on MS and see how they react.

I would've put a house on the breakaway winning this, but now Froomey must go for all the seconds possible so Sky will destroy the race from the start. It will be a death march from start to finish.

I really am pissed off that the coverage only starts after roughly 30km. It really wouldn't have taken much to show it from the very beginning.

I think Sky will be sensible and put Henao in the break. Maybe Oomen will as well.

I think all the climbers bar Woet and Froome will try to make the breakaway.
Same with Astana.
Would be difficult for MS to control everything. Sunweb might help them too.

Yesterday must have taken a lot out of everyone. I really hope that Astana or another team will go berserk today. If someone from Lopez/Pinot/Pozzovivo feels well, he should attack on Sant'Antonio already. Especially if they have teammates in the break, they must do that. After all, they are the ones who need to gain significant time on Yates and Dumo.

After the finish yesterday it's the first time I've heard Yates say he is really tired.

Froome and Sky looked fully recharged yesterday; if they're fresh as daisies while everyone else is tired Froome could take over the race lead today. Stay tuned...

Still I think the more likely scenario is that Yates smashes it.

That won't be a problem: Adam should be over his jetlag by midweek, so they can take the racing in turns through the last stages.

The race is on! Unsurprisingly, many riders try to attack from the beginning.

Vendrame, Cattaneo, De Marchi, Boaro, Meintjes, Pantano and Brambilla with a gap.

They have 14'' after 8km.

Lammertink attacks. Neilands bridges, but the bunch catches both of them.

The bunch is stretched out now.

Strategy seems pretty simple; set a high pace, try to drop Dumoulin on the penultimate climb then go full gas the last 3km.

In practice things don't always work out as planned.

Ten Dam, Visconti and Plaza get away, the bunch splits behind them.

High pace, no one gets away! They have ridden 20km.

Imo if Dumoulin feeling good today... he should try and be a part of an ambush on Yates or at least try and isolate Yates early.

My feeling is the standings after the ITT wont be enough unless Yates does horribly and then fades in the last week.
