I read on Twitter that they announced on the presentation yesterday that there would be three stages with more than 5500 m of climbing..

Is stage 20 the route of the Sportful Dolomiti Race, but then finishing at the Passo Croce d'Aune instead of Feltre? That should be a tough finish.

Cuneo - Pinerolo, and a Ponte di Legno via Gavia and Mortirolo perhaps. And the third stage? The rumoured stage to Croce di Aune?

We're gonna go from 'too young to lead GT' to 'screw this let him peak for 2 GTs in one year' now?

My guess is Sky strongly prefer a good back up for the Tour, so that would probably mean Bernal over Poels, although Poels seems to be really good buddies with Froome and Poels didn't really peak at any point this year due to his PN crash followed by Giro/Tour double.

Vuelta will be Froome for Sky, unless it's not his favorite race anymore now that he's won it.

IIRC Thomas said he won't go Giro/Tour, and I agree that would be stupid.

Thomas could go Giro Vuelta though

And he also said that the MTT prologue is a strong start of one of the hardest Giro in the last 20 years, i don't think he refers only to the three stages with more than 5.000 metres of elevation but probably he designed a Giro with a very limited number of sprinter stages and open to GC action almost in every day.

Okay, so interesting thing here, I just mapped Cuneo - Pinerolo on cronoescalada and according to the site it only has an elevation gain of a bit over 5100 meters missing around 400 meters on the mark three giro stages will supposedly reach. Now maybe what Vegni said was wrong, maybe the Cuneo - Pinerolo stage just isn't one of the 3 5500+ stages or cronoescalda is so inaccurate that the stage actually has a lot more climbing. However there is another explanation being, Pramartino is in, and I have to say, Pramartino after such a savage stage would be absolutely phenomenal. Maybe we even get that short cobbled wall, which was already used in 2016, again.

If he throw in a passage through Chianti and some sterrato in the stage to Orbetello he could also replicate the Cuneo-Pinerolo farce of 2009 and i don't have anything to complain.

Another possibility to hit the 5.500 meters of climbing is Agnello, Izoard, Montgenèvre, Sestriere and Pramartino. That would be around 240k.
