The reason for the lean is that the ground on which it was built is sandy and unstable and the foundations used for the tower were insufficient to cope with this.

In 1185, a long period commenced in which construction of the Tower of Pisa ceased, the halt in progress usually being attributed to the fact that the Pisans were preoccupied with a succession of wars such as with Florence. Giovanni di Simone continued work on the tower in 1260 and, while there was a further pause in construction along the way, the Tower of Pisa was finally completed in 1360.

Gee slower than Frigo and Poole. Something went seriously wrong with his prep, he came 6th in the stage 21 Nice ITT in last year's tour.

When I was living in Pisa, the narrow path alongside the aqueduct used to be my go-to afternoon promenade. It really is a beautiful stretch of countryside, although the aqueduct itself is much more impressive on the Lucca side.

I would recommend the ~8 hour walk from Pisa to Lucca (or vice versa) to anyone who visits the area and stays longer than the vast majority of tourists who only hop off their bus to take a pic with the tower and leave asap.

Good time from Cattaneo but Cattaneo finishing at +23 seconds means imo that Vacek/Arensman/Roglic/McNulty/Ayuso could all still compete for the stagewin.

What was all the fuss about the rain and cancelling the stage in here about? Lol.

Looks mostly dry and when raining, not even bad.

It's pretty obvious it's either the changed wind condition or just Hoole blatantly getting paced by other riders and cars that made the difference here. Riders keep losing a lot of time in second part. Hoole probably also just paced a bit better.
