If the names hadn't all been spelled correctly, I would have thought this had been made by Ilmaestro.

It was a great stage today, but it has to be said that the mere fact that a guy who is not even a top 10 climber is leading the Giro after 16 stages is a proof that the route has been pretty poor up to stage 16.

How is Gee doing this?
I mean he basically went full Jens Voigt on every stage during his first GT, at least that's how I remember it, so with that kind of engine and some additional racing and experience it's not so surprising if he comes through in week 3, even if there are better climbers on paper.

Looking at how Carapaz flew away from Yates/Del Toro made me think he's going to win this Giro and then he gets dropped by Pellizzari, who was on the attack for most of the climb. I don't know what to think anymore.
I think he also lost time to Yates again in the end?

But still a very promising performance, of course, especially as he is usually better in the high mountains.

That's Carapaz for you. Very unreliable, very fun! :joycat:

I'm curious for a rider like Svestad-Bårdseng today. So far he has managed to avoid falling back into gruppettos and is holding on to a top 25 spot. A stage like today will be a big test to see if he can hold on long enough to keep his spot and challenge for top 20 or if the bottom falls out and he looses 30 minutes or more.

He finished 23rd today (17th from the peloton). That's pretty good.

Looking at Carapaz flying up the road while Del Toro and Yates were looking at each other gave me some serious flashback. Yates will have to choose carefully in the following stage.

Do fans of "le cyclisme" win a bigger prize in terms of "fandom meritocracy" than fans of individual riders? I hope I haven't been doing this wrong since the 1990's.
Ask yourself: did I like the 2023 queen stage (the one to Tre Cime) better or did I like this one better? If the former, then I think most people would say you are doing this wrong.
