Del Toro and UAE as a team and team car with an epic eff up. Never seen such a big blunder. The team, for all their strength, were completely useless today. The car, unless we’re all misinterpreting this, gave terrible advice to Del Toro. And ultimately Del Toro should have ridden all out to win no matter what the car said. Contador would have ripped the earpiece out and gone for it. Del Toro just sort of rolled over. Just wild.

Gianetti said after yesteday that del Toro trusts in what the car is telling him and follows orders. So maybe this is some UAE meta-magic play that didn't work at all.
Or del Toro just tried not to explode.

It's on himself too. At the top of the Finestre it was all to play for but for whatever reason he didn't choose to play. Whatever the team car says, at some point you have to listen to yourself.

It is lose-lose for IDT to push here. The gap is too big.

The car told him to focus on Carapaz.

But they misjudged Yates and they gave him too much time.

Then they slowed down to wait for teammates, who are too far behind.

This isnt on Del Toro or his "mentality".

It is on the team and their tactics.

Focusing on carapaz was right, but you can't track stand and look at each other - you need to keep moving and also be willing to go all in when the lead gets too much.

None of this happened.

Was still salvageable at the top of the climb, but after arguing with the cost of time about who would pull up 9% gravel they decided to argue about who would lead on the descent - honestly.

I completely agree with all the other points, but I'm not sure we can say that Yates was clearly the strongest here. I'm not saying he wasn't the strongest for sure either, I just don't know whether he could have created a gap on Del Toro or Carapaz if one or the other wasn't present in the race
