A reply to this tweet from a local says that the road works were mostly completed already, so they can't be too far behind normal Giro standards.

A guy that I know says that says, and I quote "the road (on stage 1) is so bad that unless they use mountain bikes is borderline impossible".

And, believe me, if you think Italy (and RCS) is chaos, a combination of Italy and Bulgaria is something I don't want to think of.
Honestly expect that the Grande Partenza to be a huge disaster.

We talking Athens level disaster? Riders crashing left right and centre, bad roads, on coming cars ect.

This is going to be a cakewalk for Vingo and might win by more than 10 miniutes. The others seem to be in really poor form with only Pellizzari seeming to be in good form. Almeida has had a setback, Tiberi seems to have lost his early season form. Carapaz and O'Connor have been really poor up to now

Carapaz was 18th in Tirreno and 10th in Catalonia last year before he rode to the podium at the Giro. This year he was 18th in Tirreno and is now 10th in Catalonia...

With Carapaz I think the expectations for these spring one week races are based on his GT results, but he's never really performed in these type of races except of the 2022 Catalunya where he was second. What we've seen from him this week is in line with previous years where he have shown up to the Giro in great form.

Gall seems in a pretty decent shape, he should be a podium contender with that. The rest seem to be very weak

Tiberi is riding the Tour anyway.
