THAT - is one of the most spectacular views in all of cycling: the motocam shot of the front of the peloton just after they ride past the coliseum, with the walls of that amazing edifice looming over them in the background.

I'm now imagining the peloton riding in gladiator gear.

Perfect! I forgot how much more interesting (for me) the heli views of the final stage in Rome are than the finale in Paris.

Have them drink one glass of champagne for each day they've spent in the race lead. Would encourage more late-stage battling because you don't want to control the race in dominant fashion and then have to defend the lead on the last day after 15 glasses of champagne.

Paris is great also with all the architecture and art and whatnot, but Rome has a certain gladiator-like air about it, which is perfect for sport.

Oh, I love Paris, but le Arc and the Champs are some of the least interesting parts of the city for me. Also, I've never been to Rome so obviously that adds to my interest watching today.

Yeah, I wondered about that. Maybe they charged to sit in that section, and everyone decided they'd rather stand along the roadside elsewhere for free.
