Big day out for Tiffany Cromwell

Winning in a solo break by 8 and a half minutes?

Sure, the peloton shut down, but still, must have been a hell of a day out.

I insist: Where Lizzy?

Well, today she lost over 2 min in a friendlier stage. If she's to ride team pursuit, the time is right to take a rest befor moving to the fixed gear world.

It'll probably mean they need to go for more mountainous Giro routes, as she eats up these intermediate style stages; they need to really go for the big stages like the Stelvio in 2010 to open up more opportunities for the likes of Pooley. And more time trial mileage, for christ's sake. It's almost chronic these days (even if Vos won the ITT, it's woefully ignored in routes lately). I don't know too much about the track, but it's going to get even easier for her in the field now, with Daphny's retirement. Daphny won the overall CX WC last year, more or less by coming 2nd to Vos most of the time and winning when Vos wasn't there. She was easily the nearest rider to Marianne in quality, now there's going to likely be a pretty big gap back to the likes of van Paassen, Cant, Wyman and Compton.
The current Marianne Vos is geared more toward classics style racing, for the Olympics and the Worlds. And of course she only just returned from her broken collar bone. Last year's Vos could follow Pooley up the climbs.

And inevitably if there's big mountain stages, there will be big descents...

Lizzie has an UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), so not in the best of conditions to shine at the Giro Donne. Don't understand the following comment as she is 100 % committed to road now

Story of the day is van Vleuten who rode with a broken collarbone until now, after a crash on stage 4 (!) (they missed to diagnose it at the time). Sounds like fun...
