Evans doing his thing again, going in the red too long just to hang on, instead of picking his own pace. It worked impressively well so far on some of the previous stages, near the end. But this stage has too much left to start doing that now.

Curious if he will break himself here.

I think he peaked early. Being forced to do well in the Ardennes for race invites was a really bad thing for his Giro.

This.

No one holds top form from the Ardennes until the last week of the Giro.

And since this Giro is mostly about the last week.....

Now maybe the Evans groupies will realise that Basso is the biggest doper here by a mile and Evans can't match him as he doesn't have the team support Basso does.

Basso will go on and win this stage. Nibali will now set him up. If Evans was still with them, Nibali would go. But Basso will go for the stage win here.

Basso will drop them all before the top. It's just a question if he'll have enough to stay away.

Even if Basso is strong enough to drop everyone, he would be very wise to keep Nibali by his side to help on the descent. Then he can blast away on the road up to Aprica.

If Nibali is smart, he gets on Basso's wheel, waits until Scarponi gets on his wheel and.....stops pedalling.

EDIT: I mean on the final climb. It's too early now

They took out Freire like that in Wevelgem or something I think.
Good possibility.
