Does the fact that the stage doesn't finish at the summit of the Mortirolo take away some of it's relevance. Think Tourmalet TDF09.

Once the riders had summited the Tourmalet, it was downhill pretty much the entire way into the stage finish, the last 30 km or so was a dead-straight road descending at maybe 1%.

Looking at today's profile the climb to the finish starts immediately after the steep descent off the Mortirolo. No time for the peloton to reassemble.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Mortirolo is a much steeper climb than the Tourmalet. You can't wheelsuck at all on the steep bits of the Mortirolo. You can on much of the Tourmalet, if you're a world-class climber riding with other world-class climbers.

from my predictions, the mortirolo should be 40mins away. Can't wait! Some have said that the mortirolo is the hardest climb in world cycling when the zoncolan is steeper. Why is that so?

Zoncolan, Mortirolo, Anglirú, you can argue a case for any of them.

We should just be thankful we get to watch them :)

would think that today isn't the day for him to go "as mad as a cut snake" so he's got something for tomorrow...
just keep Basso in check and try to take a bit of time out of him if the opportunity arises...

Cadel on a 39x27 for today. Supposedly Jim Och has said they were doing 100km down from Aprica.

You too TRDean, but we do have our bad moments sometimes. I am feeling the love from Bro!

The big test for Arroyo is coming up. It would be an enormous stunt if he survived in pink today. I wonder how he must be feeling.

He has a chance of surviving today. Not a huge chance, but some.

Tomorrow, no chance.

Computer crashed,
good thing I was watching the Giro, otherwise I would have lost a ton of work.

Go Garzelli!
