Wow. That is flatter than Keira Knightley. Even Ivan Quaranta could make it to the sprint finish.

I actually own a pair of clogs... Flame me all you want

What purpose do clogs actually serve? I've seen them used as a fighting weapon or prop in a Jackie Chan film but aside from that I cannot see them serving any needed purpose other than as a door stop or to provide splinters in one's foot. Are they a cool thing to own if you're Dutch? Kind of like an iPhone but a wooden shoe.

They'll cross this today. With tailwind, unfortunately.

I was going to ask how long the bridge was and what it looked like. No need now. Pity there isn't a storm brewing. That would make the stage interesting.

The finish looks a lot like yesterdays.

There's a 90 degree left turn about 250 meters from the finish line so it's crucial to be in a good position.

So who will take it? Farrar was really fast yesterday and was in a good position so once again he looks like the main candidate alongside Greipel.

Sutton was also really fast yesterday and with Sky having no obligations today I think Henderson will be in a good position for a top 3 finish.

Here's the finish (a bit large - hope it's ok):

I'm having a look at the run-in on google maps, and it could not be more Dutch. The roads are all pretty narrow with lots of islands and road furniture, and they change width all the time. The last corner is particularly tricky, there is a narrow bridge immediately before it, and an island with bollards in the middle of the entrance to the road they turn left on to. If no-one is in control of the pack and lining it out there could be a big big crash there.

The finishing straight is actually cobbled, but nothing too serious.

I think you're right. Looking at the streetview it looks like it could be a pretty dramatic finish actually.

I drove down that road last summer on the way back from Rotters via Middelburg. It was pretty blustery but on a nice day it didn't seem too strong. That said, there really isn't anything 'twixt the bridges and the vast expanse of the Nordzee, not a blade of grass. It's the end of the Old World out there.

In a photo I took that same day last year, here's the old market square at Middelburg:

Will BMC take the challenge up at the front of the peleton? As much as Cadel has said that they're not going to risk anything, having the Maglia Rosa for the rest day is very good for publicity. I don't think they're going to just sit back at let someone take it away from them. Also, given the exposed nature of the course, they'll want to ensure they have a strong group at the front of the peleton in case of splits.

From a dutch forum:

You might see more than 1 Italian champion.

This guy dressed himself as Pozzato and went through everything, even the signing in process. Don't know if he is also riding with them in the peleton.

To me, Walcheren (the island of which Middelburg is the center) is the most beautiful part of the Netherlands. The Delta Works make me proud. Hoping for some nice pictures, this afternoon.

I just watched the peloton of the Giro d'Italia ride through the streets I walk every day. Pretty surreal, I must say. Go Stammie!

Has anyone ever gone off the side of a bridge during a race? Like that bloke in F1 a few years ago (50 years ago or something) who drove into the harbour at Monaco.
