Commentator said he mentioned decompression after his stage win as reason for his poor time trial. That can play a role too.

Long interview with him in Italian about the past, present and future. He stayed off the bike for quite some time during off-season and got sick. He has been at altitude for 3 weeks before starting Valencia. Where he will focus on helping Evenepoel win the GC.

Numbers he's pushing are better than last year, so he's still improving.

Even though he didnt win in the end I think this solo was a very good sign from him. He is clearly a good climber, but yesterday was another sign that he also has a good engine outside of the mountains.

I wouldnt be surprised if he still has a lot of margin left and I see him contending for GT victories in the future. Very likeable rider as well.

He does indeed seem like a much more well-rounded rider than one would think. He was also great on the sterrato stage in the Giro last year, and I think his time trial was decent as well. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Strade this year. I think he can top 5 that race.

He also came from altitude. Not sure why they put Roglic, Hindley and Pellizzari at Tirreno-Addriatico. One of them at least could've gone to Paris-Nice.

He certainly has the physique to suggest he could be a good rodeé un rolling Terra in, and indeed, both yesterday and last year, certain aspects of that were evident. His only real weakness is explosiveness. In time trials, he might be penalized aerodynamically by his wide shoulders, although clear progress was seen in the Giro d'Italia. However, he was a disappointment in that regard at the Vuelta a España, but he recently commented that they found the reason for his poor performance.
