Good track pump ?

I'm looking for a new track pump as the £10 effort I got from tesco has given up the ghost. I seen the Blackburn HP for £66 on ebay which is a good price but dont really want to spend as much if possible, looking for something with an accurate dial any recomendations will be appreciated ... cheers

I can't say enough good things about the pumps from Lezyne. They are very well designed and the build quality is great. If you take care of it it should last a lifetime.

You cant really go past the traditional Silca track pump. Steel boddied with wooden handle and good dial. Can get 160psi in if you are keen. They are rebuildable too.

I have had mine for years and it never misses a beat. They have a superior connection on them for my mind. Zero drama's just like you want from a pump.

I'd stay away from the Lezyne floor pumps for now unless they've changed the design in the last year. The floor pumps were notorious for breaking down for some reason, especially at "track pump" pressures. They are beautiful looking pieces and can't say enough about their mimi pumps, but the floor pumps haven't had the greatest reputation around here. I'd stick with Silca.

In a word SILKA!! you will find they last for ever you can buy replacement parts and spares and they are solid made.

The floor pumps were notorious for breaking down for some reason, especially at "track pump" pressures. They are beautiful looking pieces and can't say enough about their mimi pumps, but the floor pumps haven't had the greatest reputation around here. I'd stick with Silca.

Really? Mine has worked great, granted the max pressure I pump to is 115psi. Thanks for the heads up though I'll keep an eye on it.

I'll still stick with my trusty old Silca pump as it works great, lasted me years (and still continues to work flawlessly), and the replacement parts are easily swapped and readily available. Lezyne seems to have these things down too, so I would go with either one.

They "look good" but that's about it. LEZYNE floor pumps still have a case of the failing gauges and they still haven't made them user serviceable. If you have a LEZYNE floor pump you have a 50/50 Chance that the gauge will stop working, and if it does you have to shatter the old one to get a new one in. dumb.

yep...another vote for the silca super pista...you really can't go wrong with the silca...I have been riding for 25 years...went thru different pumps every few years until I got the Silca...abit pricey at first but it will also save you lots of money in the end...most likely, your grandkids will be using it someday...look on ebay, got mine from a guy who had a accident and could no longer ride....hardly used for 35 bucks...silca pumps really are the balls...

SKS Rennkompressor EVA gets my vote.

Most powerful pump I had was the Blackburn TP-5 but they don't make it any more. Don't know what the new ones are like.

(SKS is better than the Silca Super Pista which I have also owned.)

I put a Silca head on My Joe Blow, which is a big improvement. When / if the JB fails I'll get a Silca.

Yes, imitation. How many pumps out there have design cues taken directly from Silca? I can name a few, one in my house actually, PEDRO's Superprestige.

Too bad LEZYNE hasn't figured out their pesky gauge problem, if they did I'd own one. The LEZYNE floor pump action is sweet, 120psi feels like 20. Maybe not though, another floor pump would make 3 for me and an air compressor.

My 25ish year old pump is worn out (especially the head). I'm shopping around a bit, and its shocking to me how many pumps go to 150+ psi. Granted I'm a dirt guy who hasn't pumped a tire over 23 psi for years, but even when I rode road bikes, I ran 90-100 psi. unless you are riding on the boards, why would you need a pump that goes to 150+?

Any suggestions on high volume pumps? There aren't many in my search results...

All pump manufactures overrate their pumps max psi, this is nothing new.

There are only maybe half a dozen mini pumps that can get above 80 psi, but they rate them for 120 to 160, I'd like to see them try to get any mini pump to 160. Hopefully, the SKS pump by claiming that high a psi means pumping bike tires to normal pressures will put no stress on the pump. The SKS does have very high reviews though, and it's also a legendary pump like the Silca, and like the Silca, it's also rebuildable should something fail, they have a huge parts list.

I have Rennkompressor, it's really sturdy and trusty made of quality materials. I've had two Silcas too but I rate Rk way higher.

Dunno about that 230 psi but it's very powerful, but not a high volume type pump. Just done road tyres up to 10 bars easy and gravel/mtb/casual bikes to low pressures, dunno how high it would go off I really yank the handle. Also gets gravel tyres w/sealant up and seated if valve core is away and not sloppy tyre against the rim. Then again I have electric compressor for a finish nailgun so I typically use it to seat the tyres with sealant.

Lezyne mini floor pump w/ pressure gauge is also small quality tool, nice esthetics and is lightweight metal frame that packs so small in your travel bag.

My 8-year-old Birzman Maha Apogee, a weird name, the head broke this past spring. I went down to my local bike shop and bought a head, and installed it, but it only lasted till last week, so I said screw it and went down to Dicks Sporting store which had one Topeak JoeBlow Sport III in stock.

Seems to work well, I checked the PSI gauge to see it if was calibrated correctly and it was spot on, which was better than the 6 psi the Birzman was off by!

The question is, how long will it last? I guess I'll find out, but it is rebuildable.

I have a Topeak Sport Joe Blow III and I'm not impressed, it works, the head is fiddly getting on, and the base is not very good either, it's made of thin steel and flexes while being used.

Silca stuff is very good stuff but over priced.

Probably the best pump for the price is the SKS Rennkompressor floor pump with the MV head. That pump has a reputation of lasting many years, probably longer than you'll last! The design has been unchanged for many years, and rightfully so, why mess with a good thing?

Specialized has a better floor pump than Bontrager.

But if you're going to spend $65 to $70 for a pump, just get the SKS, spare parts have been available for over 75 years, you can rebuild the entire pump. The SKS is only $5 to $10 more than the grouping here, except for the Topeak that is cheaper, but it feels cheaper too, I don't have a lot of long term confidence in that pump, and if that head gets worse I'm just going to junk it and get the SKS which I should have done!! But I got hung up on all the good reviews.
