11 mars 2010 | Radio Okapi - The victim was cycling on a bicycle along the river Movo when she was snatched and devoured by a crocodile.

The drama took place in the territory of Miabi at Bakwa Sumba village, about 50 kilometers south of Mbuji-Mayi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The rest of the remains of the swollowed unfortunate, her bicycle and two bottles containing alcohol were found by locals living near the River.

However no details on the clothing of the cyclist, probably brand Lacoste.

March 13, 2010 | MARION - 'The avid cyclist with 200,000 miles during his life, took his last ride on Wednesday'. Authorities responding initially to a report of a cyclist hit by a car found him lying alongside his bicycle on Owens Road.

"He was riding and something went horribly wrong,". While initial 911 reports he was hit by a car, Marion County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Al Hayden said authorities believe his death was also medically related and no foul play from the driver was suspected. Glen Poston had retired his last TREK carbon fiber bike when it reached 89,000 miles.

Glen's wife Carol said the cause of death is not yet known. He was 55 years old. Glen and Carol Poston bought Rocky's Cyclery in 2003 after past owner Rocky Rhoades died of cancer. Glen always supported area cycling clubs and events said Woody Barry, an area cyclist and member of the competitive cycling Team Rocky. 'Girl, 11, died after she swerved her new bike to avoid a holly leaf'

Schoolgirl Katie Cook died in a freak accident after falling off her new bike, when she swerved to avoid a holly leaf, while riding ahead of her family.
Katie was trying out her new bicycle accompanied by her mum, her dad Jim, 36, and her brothers Michael, 14, and Matthew, seven, around Bewl reservoir in Kent when the tragedy happened. In a statement read by housewife Diane Cook, 38, in Eastbourne, Katie's mum told:

‘All of a sudden I saw Katie come off her bike and over the handlebars which she landed on. ‘I have tried to understand how Katie came off. I know she tried to swerve to miss a holly leaf on the cycle path. All I saw was Katie go through the air.’

We ran to Katie, got her up, 'Katie thought the leave would puncture her tyre, she told me right after she came off the bike, when she began losing colour and her tongue started to turn blue.

The last thing I did was putting Katie bolt upright, 'she said she wanted to go home but she then fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes.’ I comforted her with loving words as she slipped away.

‘I told her I loved her and that her brothers, the horse, the dog and everyone loved her.

The inquest heard her only visible injuries were a bruise on her stomach and a graze on her elbow. But a post mortem revealed the impact had lacerated her liver, causing massive internal bleeding. Pathologist Dr Jane Mercer said: ‘This injury is extremely rare as a result of a cycling accident. It was a catastrophic injury.’

Mr Cook said: "It's just 'what ifs' and 'maybes' that run through your head. We almost didn't go because it was raining in Hastings that morning." 'It was just one leaf' ! ~hastingsobserver.co.uk

© AP | AMSTERDAM - A Dutch 27-year-old cyclist was killed on Thursday on the Spanish holiday island of Mallorca when he ran off the road and fell ten meters down. Hij fell from a slope and came with his head against rocks and trees. This is repoted by Spanish media this morning.

The accident happened around noon on a highway at the place Valledemossa. The victim cycled there with other Dutch cyclist.

At one point he lost control of his bike and hit the road. According to the newspaper Diario de Mallorca, the Dutchman the eleventh fatality this year on the island.

Emergency services tried to resuscitate the man, but to no avail.

Top Jounalist and Ex-world champion dies on the scene at Cape Epic

An Australian journalist and former World Solo 24 Hour mountain bike champion has died while taking part in the Absa Cape Epic stage race in South Africa.

James Williamson, 26, editor of Enduro magazine and winner of the World Solo 24 hour mountain bike Championships in Canmore, Canada in 2008, was taken to hospital this morning after his riding partner, Shaun Lewis, could not rouse him.

“After yesterday’s Stage 2 through singletrack paradise he was all smiles, repeatedly expressing how he enjoyed yesterday’s route. He’ll be deeply missed in the mountain biking media fraternity.”

'Bronx biker mom killed after hitting a double touch down'

A Bronx cyclist was killed in a freak accident yesterday when the driver of a parked car opened his door and knocked her into the path of a city bus, authorities said.

The cyclist hit the door and was bumped into the path of a BX17 bus, glancing off its front passenger side and falling beneath its rear wheels, witnesses said.

"It all happened so fast. She was hit by the bus and the wheel ran over her because we felt the bump," said Angel Otero, 48, who was aboard the bus. "Everyone was screaming, 'Oh, my God!' Everyone was in shock. Everyone was horrified."

3/25/2010| Pro-athlete Jordan Rapp was struck by a car while riding his bicycle yesterday evening. Rapp suffered numerous broken bones including his clavicle and scapula, as well as contusions and lacerations about the head and neck. His doctors report, Rapp lost between two and three liters of blood as a result of the accident. He remains in the intensive care unit, sedated and on a ventilator to breathe Doctors say. Rapp's brain function is normal, and there is no indication of nerve or spinal cord injury.
California Highway Patrol officer Frank Paramo suspects a commuting "farm worker" made a left-hand turn into oncoming traffic.

17-year-old girl on a spring break bicycle trip, Faith Dremmer of Chicago was killed on the spot and two of her companions are hanging to life on Wednesday, when a van slammed into her and the two other students from the University of Chicago Lab School.

Authorities say the group teens were biking in Gallatin County when a van driven by an 86-year-old man crossed the center line and plowed into the group of teenage bicyclists from Chicago.

A Royal Fusilier soldier who served in Afghanistan was killed when he was hit by a lorry as he cycled near his base in Wiltshire.

It is believed Capt Jonathan Allen was struck as he swerved to avoid a pothole while riding home to Burbage on the A338 from his barracks near Tidworth.

The 29-year-old suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, just after 1900 GMT.

Three cyclists killed in Spain as van ploughs into a group of 60 Ironman training camp riders

The victims were named as 34-year-old Chanelle Carter from Western Australia, who died from her injuries after being airlifted to hospital in Tarragona, and Swiss Nationals Medhi I., aged 33, and Sandra G., who was 34years old, both of whom died at the scene.

Chanelle Carter's former coach Ray Boyd says she was a determined and dedicated athlete.

"Everything she did with athletics she worked really hard to achieve," he said.

"She didn't have a natural flowing style, but just through sheer determination she achieved the results she did and went on to represent the state at national events."

Cyclists mowed down by truck

A cyclist has been killed after being hit by a truck on the M4 in Sydney's west.
A group of four cyclists were riding in the breakdown lane of the M4 when they were struck by a B-double truck that veered into them about 7.40am today, police said.
A male cyclist died and the other three sustained serious injuries. The injured were taken to Nepean Hospital.
The male truck driver was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
All westbound lanes of the M4 are closed and traffic is being diverted on to the Northern Road off-ramp, where motorists can cross Northern Road and re-enter the M4 westbound.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.
A report will be prepared for the coroner, police said.

Promissing Garmin Racing junior Adam Reyneke killed while training

The cycling community is in shock after the death of promising junior cyclist Adam Reyneke who was hit by a car while training on Tuesday and was hit from behind, Adam, 17, died on impact.
He is the son of Pretoria cyclist and cycling shop owner Bruce Reyneke.In February this year he won the junior category of the Carnival City Macsteel Cycle Classic.

Internet social website Twitter was abuzz with the news of Adam's death yesterday, with friends and cyclists expressing shock and their sympathy for the family.

One wrote: "Just got news that Adam Reyneke, absolutely wonderful young guy and awesome talent, killed while training. Devastating."

A Facebook page, "In loving memory of Adam Reyneke", grew to 27 members not long after it was created. The site was for "all who knew and loved Adam. May the great memories live on!".

Friends of the young cyclist wrote: "You will be safe in the palm of the Lord's hand. RIP Adam." Another said: "You are such an inspiration and legend to many. Keep a watchful eye from above - great things will happen because of you."

Adam was described as a happy, wonderful and positive young man with whom his friends had fun. All said he would be greatly missed. AMEN

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Dominican Republic cyclist Leonardo Grullon died on Thursday after he and four other cyclists were hit by a truck while training for the Pan American Championships.

An unidentified truck driver apparently fell asleep and hit the group near the mountainous community of Jarabacoa, northwest of Santo Domingo, according to the Dominican Cycling Federation.

In February, the 24-year-old Grullon won the third stage of the annual international Independence Ride in the republic.

Four of the five cyclists hit were part of the national team, including Juan Carlos Polanco, who was critically injured, federation spokeswoman Ana Lebron said.

The group expected to travel to Mexico on April 30 for the championships starting on May 10.
