Agreed.

Also, Alpe di Pampeago is one of those nice MTFs. Nice and steep, hard. The gaps it creates aren't huge, but it's usually good for some excitement.

So true. Pampeago is another leg busting grind up that very narrow valley.
No wonder Zomegnan can keep coming up with mouth watering Giro courses. He is actually spoiled for choice.

the Giro does seem to be far more interesting each year, while le Tour just seems stale these days...

What happened to Bottle?
Indeed.
Quite a historic ascent, that one in 2005.
Bottle busts the boss and we got to see a very young rider who's career went in the opposite direction.

Poor Saul Raisin showed he might have been the US rider to fill the void............until his awful crash.

Oh and Bertie Cont finished almost 10 minutes down.

Hard to look past the Zoncolan.
It is such a beast.

Angliru really parts the boys from the men. Very tough.
Mortirolo is another steep beast.
I always loved Alpe d'Huez. Not the steepest climb, but always a good stage.
And yes, Finestre.. epic.

1. Angliru I've never seen so much riders off the bike, even top 10-20 finishers if I remember correctly. Millar breaking his bike is a legend :)

2. Monte Zoncolan longer than the above, maybe I adore it as much when they ride is once in cold rain

3. Mont Ventoux an ever greater legend because they use it very little

4. Alpe d'Huez because of the spectators
