Originally a football/soccer player, she already explored the idea of becoming a bobsledder about 10 years ago, but wasn't deemed a fast enough runner at the time and was instead considered a better fit for track cycling. After the Paris Olympics she felt ready for a new challenge, but her attempt to follow in the footsteps of her compatriot Clara Hughes and become an Olympian speed skater didn't work out, so when pilot Melissa Lotholz reached out to her she finally ended up in the sport she had dreamt of a decade earlier. Their first outing at the Cortina Sliding Centre was quite good, but a failed second run put them out of contention for a top 10 finish and they had to settle for 13th overall.
So yeah, when I wrote brake I was referring to her being a brakeman, as they call it in the bobsleigh biz.
