I think I am down to 6 possibilities, and I can't think of any reason why any of them should be considered notable in any way, with one possible exception, a guy I read about on this forum last week:

Is he of a bodyshape not typically associated with professional cycling, but gets away with it because he is employed by his father?

If not, is he a near-namesake of a Manchester United left sided midfielder of the mid 1980s?

No to all of them.

By MU MF did you mean Robson?

Dammit! He was one of my last "6", and after removing Olsson and Jolidon, I had it in my head that there were 2 at Euro teams, and 2 at Kuwaiti ones. I must have had 7 tabs open, not 6.

And Gall even struck me as someone who I had heard of, though I couldn't remember why.

You are looking for a male who is not active, with two legs and hair.

He is European, and has started a GT. He was active both after 2000 and therefore by proxy, after 1980.

He has never won a GT, or a GT stage.
He has never top 10ed nor won a monument.
He is from a country which borders the Mediterranean.

Retired after 2010?
Retired voluntarily*?

*By voluntarily I mean no external factors, other than getting old. Cancellara retired voluntarily, Meersman didn't even if he made the choice himself.
