Indeed, it encourages to actually fight for victory as leader. Instead of letting an early break go and waiting behind for the more crucial stages. Or wheelsucking your opponent until the finish line...

Yep, the time bonuses have certainly added extra impetus and excitement to this tour, especially this past week.

I would have hoped you had learnt your lesson vis a vis suggesting everyone else is stupid, after you made such a tit of yourself in this Vuelta.

Ouch, he cut you deep didn't he! :p

The nightmare for time bonuses would be if the top 2 came 2nd and 3rd and the overall winner won by say 3 seconds.

Then the winner of the stage gets disqualified after the race.

So on that stage they get moved up to 1st and 2nd.

So now theres a 8 second gap between time bonuses and rider B moves above rider A.

I wouldn't change the winner then, as he would have ridden differently if his closest rival took those bonus seconds and passed him on the GC. Unless it happened at the very last stage or something... It would probably end up in a court case and if your situation happened on stage 6 for example then no way would the guy that got second ever win the court case as any decent lawyer would be able to convince the jury/judge.
