Some pretty interesting comments in this months cycle sport magazine.
The best of which are highlighted in this excellent blogpost

Not going to quote it all, you can read for yourselves. We always knew Watson was a lance-chamois sniffing ****, now he just proves it.

Well, thankfully, due to technology, Graham Watson no longer "owns" cycling photography.

Funny how he picks and chooses his dope cheats. He's an anglophile for sure.

How quickly will he distance himself from Tex when the time comes? To me, it sounds like he's already practicing his lines.

Was going to post this a few days ago but cannot be bothered posting much anymore. I laughed when I saw this in Cycle Sport. I find it unbelievable that Watson has already cast Contador down over a miniscule amount of clenbeturol and ignores the fact he might yet get off the hook(however unlikely) whilst there is still far more evidence including positive tests against Lance yet he still chooses to champion him, its surreal, seriously the double standards are just awful.

his earlier comments on lemond were atrocious but he's really just saying he's afraid he'll have a hard time selling contador pics in the future and that this has been a recurring problem for his business over the years after a doping positive or suspected positive. if you read carefully he's actually complementary of AC in one instance.

Watson earns a fortune selling prints of LA to a bevvy of corporate fanboy dickheads.

That, the Lance favoritism, and the GL bashing are what some confused journos consider 'balanced reporting'.

Thanks for posting, Dim.

I've defended Contador enough today, so I'll just question the part about reputable cycling publications not using photos of cheaters. Huh? If there are articles, there are photos. How many pics of Floyd have you seen this year? Or so many other guys. And after making money off the sport for all these years, Watson feels sorry for himself? Yep, how much money has he made just off pics of Lance?

I read Cycle Sport magazine back when it was a hard-to-find international magazine from England.

Man, those were the days. It was a great read.

Then it became a World Cycling Productions subsidiary and ad-hoc catalog for their overpriced cycling gear.

When they went completely over the edge with their fawning and disgustingly reverential coverage of Armstrong and anything related to US Postal I just couldn't read it anymore.

Graham Watson and his fake outrage, I have no words for how this man nauseates me.

And I just love it how he equates the Contador situation with riders of his ilk taking food out of his mouth and wasting his precious work time that he can't make money off of anymore. What a tool.

If I were stuck with him during a zombie apocalypse he'd be the first one I'd kick towards the undead so they can feast on his bloated carcass. I would pay to see that.

I have to admit the blog does not paint GW in great light. But he is still a great photographer. He should just stick to that... most of the time. There was one instance though where I thought his insight about riders was nuts on. One rider in particular... the (ahem) initial winner of the 2006 Tour (FL). I don't have the link, but he said somewhere that Floyd did not appear to be at his usual temperment (like he looked and acted angry) on the day Floyd made that freak-hog attack that blew everyone away and reclaimed the yellow jersey. Now THAT'S the insight of a guy who's around the riders a lot and knows how they normally behave. So those comments made the accusations of doping by FL all that more believable. Not that we needed GW's comment to push the doping charge into the believable realm. It just solidified it.

I actually have two words for him. One's not very nice, and the other is 'you'.

Because no one ever saw stupid superhuman performances in the peloton before that. Back to GW being a sold man...

Is GW looking for something from LA, more work, possibly the offical liestrong photographer to travel the globe photographing uniballer is uniballplane and uniballmobile as he lays hands on the millions of cancers sufferers who need him to be their voice to bring about the awareness of this terrible disease to the world that hardly anyone has heard of:D

not surprised at all, since we already know the lengths of PR's dirty work exercised by anyone involved with LA. I only hope he has the courage to use the same language when his dear friend faces justice, and perhaps become the official photographer of LA during his trial.

Joy, ive now been blocked by watson on twitter.

All i said was "what happened to innocent till proven guilty. If you are going to delete AC's pictures will LA get the same treatment If he is ever found guilty? Not done yourself any favours with that article. None at all."

Usual liestrong tactic, dont reply, just block

nicely done. and at least in my mind you get some points... what a d*ck GW is, you can't be more of an explicit appologist than that.

Every "notable" quote I've ever seen Watson make, in my opinion, was tied to one of his better-quality images. He has a talent for conducting salesmanship when most people don't realize they're being sold. He works hard to make people think that an epic moment happened right then, and what a surprise! He just so happens to have shot that moment and will share it with you (for the right price). I know photography. To get 90% of those epic shots, you're not really able to consider what you're seeing. You're too busy setting-up and then composing shots. Watson knows how to sell himself very well after he sees his shots and goes to press.

great photographer, great pharmstrong prostitute. but as many mentioned, armstrong and his seven wins and the related commercial impact made big bucks for GW...

This is an excellent example of why I let my CycleSport subscription lapse 2 months ago. Thanks for posting this Dim.

Exactly. They need to get rid of him. No-one buys it for his section, but plenty are now boycotting it until he's gone.

Except he doesn't really get to know the riders. Most of the time, he's on his moto and scrambling to the next location and then setting-up. And when he's composing shots, he's... composing shots (not paying attention to the look on Flandis' face). Watson gets a seat in the pressbox, but is pretty busy. He doesn't really get to think about the race DURING the race.

can't beleive cycle sport would publish such one eyed opinionated nonsense that watson has come up with. it is a shame. he's probably going to have to eat some serious humble pie once novitsky has finished his work...

Very interesting.

The consensus here these days is probably that more people believe LA intentionally doped than those that think the same for AC (despite the positive test). You never get anyone arguing that LA has never used PEDs, but there are still people who believe the beef.

Then he talks up Andy Schleck like the clean saviour. You would think after all these years in the business he would learn not to pick favourites because there is always a chance they will be shot down. Why does he have the ridiculous "no photos of proven dopers" policy at all? Is it simply to make the great white hope stand alone?

I was critical of GW's treatment of Lemond & his subsequently poor handling of the aftermath of those comments. But having read and reread the photo article in this month's CS I have to say IMO too much is being read into his words.
