It's the news all Australian fans have been waiting for, not so much for the German fans. A bit sad that the rules say he had to give up citizenship from a country he has such strong links to.

Australia should now have a clear leader for Geelong.

McEwen, Sutton, O'Grady, etc etc might disagree with you.
I dont mean that he isnt stronger than them, but it's gonna be a tricky situation.

Sutton!? Sutton!? Of all the guys you think Australia will ride for, you choose CJ?? Nope, won't happen.

It'll be Haussler, McEwen (which it should def not be), O'Grady, Davis or Gerrans.

Renshaw could be a chance too, if they ride for a sprinter (he beat some big sprinters in stage 1 when he has been training for a much more sustained leadout)...Or even Porte

But Sutton??! Really!?

It is quite a ridiculous rule. I think it should be like football. A player/rider can't change nations after representing at a senior level (which I don't think Heinrich has done?) License affiliaton during the regular season is irrelevant. They ride for their teams, not countries, unless its Olympics, Worlds, etc. Competing at (and accepting the title if you win) the National Titles should also be consider you that nationality.

Does anyone know how new the rule is that says you can only change countries if you're no longer a citizen of the first? Because Patrick Jonker, I'm sure changed between Dutch and Australian once or twice.

dam good team if you put all the aussies together,just imagein the tour team this year rogers lloyd working for evans,gerrans going for stage wins,could have 3 of the top 10 sprinters in the world. even cookie...

About bloody time H.Haussler you know Australia has a lot more to offer in terms of rider support.Here comes another Aussie world cycling champion...Haussler to lead Australia to a second world title come this sep/oct.....:D

Well McEwen and Sutton should never be selected, there's no chance they can win, and O'Grady is a domestique not a sprinter. But you are right, it is all the egos.

The team should be something like this:

Evans
Haussler
Goss
O'Grady
Rogers

Any 4 of:

Hansen/Renshaw/Hayman/Lancaster/C. Meyer/W. Sulzberger/Roberts/Clarke

With Evans and Haussler protected, Goss as a fall back, Rogers a bit of a free role (but both Rogers and Goss can work for you). Without Haussler, Goss should become the protected sprinter.

I think he will ride for Australia but still have Australian and German citizenship.

We need Susan to answer it.

When (before) Haussler turned pro he decided he would ride as a German. He had the choice then to ride as either an Australian or German, because he held citizenship for both nations.

Haussler has never competed for Germany in a world championships as a senior. Later on Haussler decided that he wanted to ride as an Australian and for Australia in the World Championships. However, because he initially registered as a German, this became a complex and difficult process.

After a bit of back and forth seeing how the rules could allow for a change, it was realised that the only way for Haussler to change his cycling nationality would be to renounce his German citizenship.

So Haussler was riding as a German who held dual German-Australian citizenship.

Now Haussler will be riding as an Australian, holding only Australian citizenship.

I think a sprint on a hilly/hard stage is made for Albie. Just my opinion though :)

Gerrans will be there...And I think Renshaw would have something to say about Goss being chosen as specialist sprinter ahead of him (considering they're team mates, and the team seems to rate Renshaw higher?)

I'd go:
Evans, Rogers, Lloyd, Gerrans, Haussler, O'Grady, Hansen, Davis, Renshaw.

I think everyone under estimates Davis, he was going great guns last year, until he missed out on the Tour. Should have been there ahead of Boonen.

You can ride for one or the other, but can't change, whilst you remain a citizen of the first. That is my understanding.

Davis is great if he can find his old form.

Lloyd isn't strong enough to be in the team, likewise Gerrans. You need strong men who will work on the front for you.

Even though Renshaw may be faster over the final 100m than Goss he just doesn't have the record in single day races to be considered a challenger - I don't think he's ever made it to Sanremo in the front group. Goss has podiums in KBK, GW and a win at Paris - Brussels not to mention his strong Giro and Philadelphia victory this year. Renshaw has no chance of making it to a sprint finish in Geelong either as the main man or a lead out for Haussler, Goss could possibly be there. Both could be selected as riders to help control the race.

Very possible. Haussler is a very strong sprinter and can climb better than any of the other sprinters.

What I worry about the Australian team is that their is too many cheifs and not enough Indians. Mcewen, Renshaw, Sutton, Haussler, O'grady, goss and cadel are all possible leaders.

My team would be:
Evans
Rogers
haussler
O'Grady
Hayman
Hansen
Lancaster
Sulzberger
Clarke
