It's no accident this guy oversaw the dirtiest, most corrupt time in our sport's history where doping had a free reign, and many cyclists lives were ruined, and some even died during that time. To speak that he's proud of this time shows just how delusional he is.

Alas he answers to no one as does the UCI.

They could govern with their trousers around their ankles and nothing would change - (by all accounts this is what occurred in Kazahk-land - oh ladies beeee-have!).

When the 1998 Tour was melting down, Hein couldn't even be bothered to hang around because vacationing in Goa was his top priority. He had been in Havana for a UCI conference (which he didn't leave early) and just stopped in France for a brief time (making a perfunctory statement) on his way to India.

BOOM.

To Hein Verbruggen, a question: Does this ring a bell?

'J'ai les moyens de vous faire un coureur positif quand je veux...'

Google Tx: I can afford to give you a positive rider when I want ..

But faire is "make" or "do". My French translator friend says the truer translation (of very poor French) is, "I can make a rider positive whenever I want".

ETA: I see Race Radio gives a similar interpretation: "I've got ways to make a rider positive when I want .."

I doubt this is the real Kimmage on twitter. Not his style.

Edit i am wrong. Seems David Walsh told him to get on twitter. so Kimmage has joined up. Excellent.

But i hope that tape makes its way to him. I am sure that Tygart will be communicting with Kimmage and by the time of the court date in Swisscorruptland, Kimmage will have plenty of transcripts in his folder of evidence.

Translation is:

"I can make (deliver to) you a positive rider when I want to"

'vous' in this position before the verb 'faire' = for you; and it changes the meaning of the verb 'faire' subtly from "make, do" to "deliver

Kimmage's twitter the real deal. @paulkimmage

On the other hand they were all doping, so it was easy to stop turning a blind eye, I guess that's what he meant and ties in with the story of Wonderboy telling him to get on the case of Mayo and Hamilton...

Checking the https://twitter.com/PaulKimmage/status/249525649683935233 link though, I can't see a reference to Heiny as per the initial post about it above.

Yeah he broke it up into 2 tweets (newb!). There's only 11 of them or so, so go here and read from the bottom up: https://twitter.com/PaulKimmage

er, didn't Indurain test positive for salbutamol in the '94 Oise?

In May 1994, Indurain tested positive for salbutamol following the Tour de L'Oise in France. Though the β2-adrenergic agonist, found in nasal inhalers, was on the banned substance list of both the IOC and UCI, both organization's permitted sportsmen with asthma to use it. However in France there was an outright ban on its use.[21] The IOC agreed with the UCI that Indurain would not be punished for using a drug banned outright in France because they accepted the salbutamol was contained in a nasal inhaler he had been using legitimately to aid his respiration. In Spain, the incident was interpreted as another case of the French attempting to hinder Indurain's domination of the sport.

"Quelle difference entre un certificat delivre avant ou apres le controle? Meme s'il est antidate, qu'est-ce que ca change?"

""What is the difference between a certificate issued before or after the control? Even if it is backdated what does that change?"

Hein Verbruggen, adding flavour to the soup in March 1999.

UCI Booed at WC

This article suggests McQuaid was booed at the WC podium presentations. Otherwise, it's a nice summary of recent events.

http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/0,,12054_8108360,00.html

For those not into competitive cycling very long, the article has a gentle summary of Hein's history as the head of the UCI. I'd argue he killed a few riders diminishing the presence, and discouraging any testing for EPO for so long. Overall, about average for an IOC sports federation.

Och managed(??) some of Hein's money at .....

Thom Wiesel's retail financial broker operation!

How many business deals is Hein, Pat, Och, Wiesel, and the rest of the Tailwind/CSE organizations have together? Where there's smoke, there is definitely fire. Definitely.

What's wrong with the supreme ruler of a sports federation mixing personal matters in with Team managers and their sponsors? It isn't illegal, but what is it?

The journos reading these forums could break some scandalous news if they got to work on this. The only problem I see is it starts to reach into the IOC's politics.
