Le Monde and More

Very nice article over at Inrng:http://inrng.com/2013/01/armstrong-1999-positive/

Armstrong should have been ejected in 1999(?) for a positive if the UCI's own rules were followed.

Le Monde finally reporting the UCI's level of extraordinary assistance for Wonderboy. The UCI picks winners. Shocking for some, but shouldn't surprise anyone.

Thom Wiesel might be getting a little nervous about setting Wonderboy up for the myth soon. One wonders if he will be set up to be banned.

No way Hein's getting banned. He's done too much good for too many at the IOC.

Interesting interview with Hein Verbruggen here

Seems UCI had a policy of notifying riders with suspect values "so they could reduce their doping".
Just incredible, and if this, along with the fact that he was in cahoots with Thom Weisel taking care of his investments, doesn't oust Heiny from the IOC, nothing will.

they did that because they couldn't actuallt suspend riders based on suspect blood values at the time :rolleyes: it is actually a very sane and good thing the uci did.

Can they do that now?

This still brings up an important point. The UCI has tons of rules. Most of the rules are followed on an ad-hoc basis. Nothing more.

Yeah, and it's a good thing to educate the riders as to the levels of doping they can get away with! Duhh.....
Alerting the riders pre-testing is also a good thing, less positives and the cleaner sport we're all for, right?

I think Hein is trying to spin the UCI warning the riders about their blood values, before it breakes on it own via everyone going through their bins at the moment. And in the curent, and indeed any, climate is looks bad.

Zing!
If the UCI IC actually goes anywhere expect a few other revelations to start leaking out.

Isn't it the job of Doctors like Ferrari and Fuentes to monitor the riders values and make sure they keep out of the suspicious range? I'm not sure that the UCI should be having input.

I like to think of the analogy of the criminal world. There are many instances when the police have suspicions of crime but maybe not enough evidence to charge. I am not so sure that it is standard police practice around the world to go to the criminals and say: "Hey guys you need to stop acting guilty and maybe be a bit more discrete as your lawbreaking is a bit obvious and if you don't tone it down we might catch you."

Story is now in Guardian

Sure, cynical, calculating and unethical can be sane. You don't have to be mad to be bad.

This is just another glaring example of why the regulation of doping in cycling should be completely and utterly divorced from the UCI. The sane and ethical thing to do would be to target those with dodgy values with a deluge of out of competition testing.

No it won't. They have a long history of denying things that are obviously true.

They report to no one. If the controversy is deemed too intense by the IOC, they might replace them, but same UCI.

They are working on a way to pretend things are changing though! Pat and Hein are working on a version of the breakaway league format because apparently the guy behind Omega-Pharma-Quickstep has money to throw down a drain. That's going to be sold as an "improved UCI."

Ridiculously corrupt.

Guardian reports Hein continues to defend this policy here . UCI clearly in need of some crisis management advice. Wrong Hein, the savvy answer is "We were trying to do the right thing but in retrospect it didn't work and we were wrong" not "We did nothing wrong and I am not responsible for this disaster that happened when I was in charge, pass the bottle!"

Reported in other English speaking press too http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/armstrong-was-given-drug-warning-20130123-2d7sf.html

Can you imagine one of their anti-doping meetings?

They'd be all looking at each with a smirk each time they made anti-doping statements.

"Miguel what are your thoughts on additional bio testing."

"We'll, ummm, you, know, I'm very much in favor of additional testing, but we should consider the athletes rights.... errrr...."

You do wonder how so few people around the world voices their concerns:

France, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Argentina etc. Puppets and clowns.

* doping is because of gambling
* UCI ranking stopped the selling of races
* doping controls do not work
* WADA is BS
* UCI did the most on anti - dope of all sports [repeats this about 300000 times]
* Armstrong was not his friend
* no positive in Switzerland
* cycling is much cleaner now
* Armstrong was never suspect, he only had doubts
* Armstrong 222 times controlled
* AFLD always controlled Armstrong in the Tour, not UCI
* the money for the blood testing machine was not the first donation
* some journalists [Walsh] are conspiracy nuts

Especially loved his body language.
