Hein SportAccord Rule Ends

Hein's rule of SportAccord is ending. It could be for boring legislative reasons or more interesting reasons we can all well infer based on recent events.

I get the feeling at least a few people know what's next for Hein and Pat as a result of the years of Armstrong protection finally getting a public airing. Whatever I'm guessing is probably wrong though.

For those that don't know SportAccord is an organization with both Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations. They have their own "games" like the Olympics too. Apparently, they serve as some kind of inter-sports federation standards organization as well. Given how sketchy cycling, Track and Field, and distance running is, SportAccord seems to help each other suppress doping positives.

I have no idea if this was previously posted, but it gives perfect insight into Hein, protector of the IOC. It's from 2008 and Olympics-specific.

I guess his consultancy was accepting brown bags and moving them to one of his bank accounts. Specialised work.

Another thing, a couple of weeks back you were under the impression that another candidate would join the competition for uci presidency, from one of the traditional cycling countries. Did s/he pull back in the end?

I was under the impression there would be a French candidate, but he has backed out. At this point it is Pat vs. Cookson.....Most see that Cookson is a better option then Pat

The sport has suffered greatly from the chaos of the McQuaid/Verbruggen era. Even if we ignore the the doping issue Pat has spent the last 8 years fighting with the various stakeholders, riders, teams, organizers, USADA, etc. Cookson would bring much needed stability. I like his idea of outsourcing all testing to WADA. spending the testing money on testing instead of races promoted by Verbruggen is a good thing

Ultimately stability is what Cookson bring to the table. Once there is less chaos the sport will attract more investment....and that is normally a good thing.

Certainly Reedie and Cookson know each other, but I do not know how well then work together. Will check.....good question.
