Henao will show well on a couple of mountain/hill stages outclimbing some really good riders. However I think he will have a couple of bad/poor positioning days where he gets left behind in a split or simply gets dropped to cause him to drop out of the top 10.
Henao has the advantage that he's with Team Sky, who should be able to protect him well.

Wrong comparison. As mr. Porte was unlikely lucky with that freak breakaway which gave him a nice +10 minute bonus. Porte is unlikely to ever repeat such a GT performance

Compare rather to Mollema. W/o breaks finished just outside top 10. Would have finished 10th without freak break in front of him.

Henao has more talent. Has to be a top 10.
Porte would've been top 10 even without the freak breakaway.

Crash on some stages so no top 10 but up there with the top guys on 1 or 2 mountain stages including maybe podiuming one of the stages.

If he doesnt crash then top 6

No he would not. Aside from the time difference that break also gave him the 'courage' to rise above himself. Therefore, he would never achieved anything near a top 10 without that break.

I'm assuming this poll is referring to how many minutes he will win by. Therefore I think 10-20 is most likely, he's pretty humble so he won't want to embarrass everyone too much/

This.

10 char.

He will need a bit more miles in the legs before getting into the top 10. Should be chasing a great stage win or two instead of GC.

He's going to end up in the 11-20 bracket, going to lose minutes somewhere - but is going to do very well in certain stages - might go for KOM.

in the photo rom mallorca , sergio looks very thin, like he has lost some weight.
that wil be good for him.
if he will be able to train well in altitude when back to colombia, he will do well in the giro

Yes but he became total leader because of the break had the entire team work for him and probably went harder himself. kind of like voeckler without the time from his break would havery come what 10 th? But had he not been in yellow i doubt we would have seen such a performance.

I don't think he will be Sky's GC guy. Uran would be a much better choice.

If Cavendish races noone will be Sky's GC man, they will be too burnt out picking up where HTC left off. Having said that I expect Henao to be the go to guy on intermediate stages and go stage hunting (probably successfully) after Cavendish drops out.

You know, Velits still managed a 3rd at the 2010 Vuelta while riding for Cavendish. Hell, he even had to take some pulls in the wind the stage before Bola Del Mundo.

Of course Vuelta is very different from Giro anyway

Sitsov was top ten in the giro last year. With Cav there.

i voted for a top 10, machado top 20'd last year's giro which was his first GT and guys like mollema and so on who seem to be less talented have then henao have doing similar so if he really is as good as some people say then i can see a top 10 happening

True, but I suspect that with the easier parcours, Sky (supposedly) having a genuine shot at Tour GC and Cav wanting form for the Olympics he will ride more of the Giro than usual and will be more aggressive in the search for stage wins.

I'd like to be proven wrong and Sky put Cavendish in his place but I don't see it happening, the ego and the number of stage wins he brings are too big.

This is a really good question to found a thread on, because nobody can reasonably be sure. Also because a case can be made for any of the poll answers.

In particular, we don't know how he'll get on in Europe, we don't know if the Giro is too soon, and we don't know what Sky's strategy will be.

If he's given a free role, I think he's capable of the lower reaches of the top 10. If he isn't I think that the lower reaches of the top 20 are more likely.

Good points, one other thing, has Henao ridden a GT yet?

He won Vuelta Colombia before, which is a three week race, but nowhere near the level of competition of a GT of course (Ryo would argue the last point, of course)

Yeah, you're right, my bad.

I wonder why i was getting confused. Was Volta Portugal a 3 week race at one point?
