Holy Island to Holy City

Cycling from Holyhead (Holy Island) to Vatican City ( Holy City) in January 2017. My friend (60) is recovering from cancer and I (66) have a replacement knee. Whilst not cyclists we are training for this charity event to raise funds for cancer organisations. Commencing Jan 4th we have to get to Stadio Olympico by Feb 4th as we are going to be allowed to greet the fans of the Italy v Wales 5 Nations Rugby International. Need advice, support, guidance as to identifying suitable route, especially re Switzerland / Alps especially as it's in Winter. We have been advised that there are a number of alternative routes, avoiding the most difficult hills. We really would appreciate any advice and guidance that we can acquire on any particular part of the route, and if someone had the relative advice, on the suited route from Holyhead, Anglesey, N.Wales through go the Vatican City. It's a lot to ask, but we are aware of you hardy cyclists who may have experience of cycling various parts of this route.

Our early research indicates we would cycle from Holyhead to Eurotunnel to France to possibly edges of Belgium into Switzerland then Italy, Rome, Vatican City, with approx 1780 miles in total.

Please reply if you are able

Regards
