Brennan is too impatient currently, lacks experience fighting alone in tough finishes, Affini missed here. Looks in good condition for opening weekend though, his in-race positioning itself is also decent which is what he will need, they will be praying Van Aert recovered in time because their team seems to be depleting year on year.

He just needs glasses.

Can someone have a word with the Australian broadcasters:
Close zoomed helishots to pick up a specific rider are great early in the race to give the commentators something to talk about, but when position is relevant, we need the camera to pull back a bit to see how many in the group and what gaps there are;
Timing to the break has jumped about even more than it does in the Giro.

He was rather stitched up by Plapp pulling off the front as early as he did. Sensible move by Plapp, saw that his sprinter was about 5th when it was so far out that being left at the front was a disadvantage, so Plapp's move could have forced Brennan or Glivar to act as an unintentional leadout for Schmitt.

But Brennan's attitude after won't have won him many friends: dragging the railings aside to leave the (admittedly poorly designed) run off area after the line, and a face as though he had been forced onto the podium at gunpoint.

Yes he is definitely a bit po-faced when he loses I’ve noticed. Hopefully it’s just a case of “20 year old in a mood when he doesn’t get his own way” and it doesn’t develop into “36 year old with 1000 wins berates mechanic in public after tour stage”, no names.
