How the eff did Froome grab sixth in stage one?

Is this blatant doping or just a genetic anomaly? Effing incredible.

Didn't you see him have a puff on his inhaler, he pressed down so hard on it the force caused Cavendish to crash.

Well, 6th is kind of a long way back for a sprint.

As is so often the case that last 500 meters or so is pretty crazy so 6th or 16th is about the same. A smart GC rider rides to stay out of trouble every stage finish, so a top-20 on a flat stage for a GC guy is quite likely.

Also recall, the most interesting stage in 2013 was when Sky was not watching/racing at the front and Contador and Co. took an opportunity to use a crosswind to their advantage. As simple as it sounds, NOT racing at the front has probably lost countless GC podiums. When a GC rider is paying attention on the front, he can pick up a high placing in a flatter stage.

yeah he was clearly holding back so as not to raise suspicion

Not what I mean. A guy like Froome will always lose to sprinters. 6th is losing.

My understanding is the run-in had a slight incline that favored power sprinting, so Froome just keeps the power on and got lucky with no one swinging out into him and every other chaotic thing that can happen in the last 500 meters.

Some is some Brits dismissing Tim Howard levels of BS if I ever saw it.

I'm not convinced this guy is clean but... Dang, one hell of a show.

Silly thread trying to cash in on anti Froome sentiment?

Cadel Evans made a habit of finishing high up on sprint stages last few years - but as we saw it did not mean he had the form to win or much less any clinic angle to it. It is done purely to lower the chances of crashing, nothing more or less.

His results today have nothing to do with him being clean or dirty. The final was hectic and he was well positioned. It means nothing to the clinic.

It's closed now. We don't need yet another Froome thread. Especially one about something so minor.
