how to change the UCI?

There is clearly a longstanding and widespread opinion that PED use will never be overcome until change occurs within the UCI.

I would be fascinated to know people’s thoughts: what are those changes?

What are the funding and management structures to ensure the organisation is effective and transparent, with minimum opportunity for corruption?

What are the structures to effectively and transparently involve WADA, race organisers, rider unions, national cycling organisations, and media?

Would it be best to just make a few tweaks in the present-day UCI staffing; or to sweep the floor; or to create a new international structure altogether?

Are there any good models from other international sporting organisations (or from business or international politics)?

I guess I'm interested in the possibilities of change, rather than the political reality of such change actually happening.

I don’t have any direct involvement in cycling management at any level but for as long as I can remember, there has been simmering complaint about the UCI. It seems to me that potential change could be a good area to mine.

If it’s been covered in the past, I aplologise: please point me to the thread.

Many thanks:D

Jim

For changing the UCI we need a miracle. Better start to pray. ;)

Pray for the biggest Plumber in Europe and give him the roto-rooter to clear the pipes...

Has anyone ever read their constitution and how they are elected to power untill that is changed by law no one will ever win.
In other words you have no hope of changing any of it. so just leave them to get on with it and hope they stuff up big enough to hang them selves.

While they have this wonderful anti doping programe and governments wraped up in it they are getting heaps of public money.

Just keep feeding them with enough rope. How many millions do our Governments spend on UCI affiliates

Five easy steps:

1. Outsource testing to an independent agency (like WADA)

2. Make the UCI responsible for sanctioning riders at Pro Conti level and above

3. Get Pat some media training. Get him to learn the phrase 'It's too early to make a meaningful comment at this time. It would be prudent to wait until a full assessment can be made". Stick to protocol.

4. Stop cycling fans from indulging in the internet's taste for conspiracy theories. They very rarely exist in any walk of life.
