Yes. I despise it. The all TEXT version was far superior.

If it aint broke dont fix it. Why did you even feel the need to fix it?

I despise it because it sucks now. It was insanely easy to use before. Its not as though it is difficult now, its just tedious. It takes 5 times longer for all the "coding" to catch up and load than everything did before. By the time I get to the GC results I have already lost interest and I dont even bother trying to FIND the pictures.

I dont know about anyone else but I never came to the site because it looked cool. I simpley wanted to know who won which race and to read the occaisional article about rider.

Well Said, this new site sucks.

I'll check back in next week, if it ain't back to the simple to use, easy to read format, forget it.

I had to click three times to see something I used to be able to just scroll through, the results, which is why I came here in the first place, the results.

The headlines ruin any chance of me ever reading the live reports anymore, its already spoiled, can't even find them now, I didn't look hard because you didn't have to before.

The number two reason I come her eis to read the news, nice easy to read, all one click away, now I have to navigaet story by story, forget it.

Who was the moron that thought this was broke to begin with?

Pathetic

Dimple-brained, blind, bovine, blundering b*stards.

The new 'design' is an insult to common sense. How is this supposed to be better??? It's trash. Bulky, slow and uncomfortable to browse. Who is responsible for it? You should be sacked because you're pure bluff and have no idea what you're doing, or supposed to be achieving.

Go back to the old design - what was supposed to be wrong with it anyhow? Who complained? Anybody? Were you just bored or something? Find another hobby then.

I'll take this obscenely obvious 'design' hint, and find my own way to the exit - thankyou. The only purpose I can percieve is to simply destroy cyclingnews.com - if allowed to continue then it's a job well done.

Fools.

Thanks for your constructive criticism.

The problem with the old design was that there wasn't actually any design, nor was there any structure to data, only flat pages that were costly and difficult to maintain. The lack of design also meant that we couldn't approach a larger set of advertisers in order to fund the site, as you users get the content for free.

Herr Kruger is it?

The complaints are valid.
Your comments ignore them.
So what if the old was a problem for you? If so, fix that, but don't alter the easy, user-friendly interface.
Where are the photos for example? Race results and the accompanying story are separated. News is hard to cull from the mono-tonal front page.
Have you actually used it? Not nearly so easy as before.

And as I'm sure you've noted from our updates, many of these issues are being/will be addressed. As I've said in my updates in the main forum on this topic - the race section is undergoing an overhaul which will remove the issues you mention.

Thanks

The new site is horrible. This site designer is doing Bath an injustice & should be taken to the Bath Castle & thrown in the "forgetting pit"

I'm with you

The new format is awful. Velonews was always my second choice, now it's my first. I can't stand this mess. I can't even figure out how to find something as simple as a stage profile in the races. Cyclingnews, you lost me.

Ah, now we get to the bottom of things. Instead of providing the same perfectly good website which we knew and loved, Future bought the site, decided that it wasn't paying it's way and decided to align it's media front end with the much-lambasted BikeRadar (which also sucks by the way). So now, you've alienated a core demographic who have a significant disposable income (ie not MBUK readers) who are not going to read the new ad copy that your new eager-beaver advertisers are paying for.

Well done

"just" Flat Pages

I loved the "just" Flat Pages. Simplicity. Beauty.

The new page has no order whatsoever. Nothing is organized intuitively.

Its crap.

some other poster said he would be back in a week to see if it is changed. as it is now, I have no desire to use it.

The spoilers are trash too. I was pleasantly shocked to learn there were others that enjoyed reading the Live Race report from start to bottom, whether the results were availabe or not.

READ THIS CAREFULLY CN: I CAN FIND OUT WHO WINS THE RACE ON ANY OTHER WEBSITE.................... BECAUSE NOW YOU ARE LIKE EVERY OTHER WEBSITE.

Never truer words spoken. The old cyclingnews, for all its unusual layout quirkiness and non-standard approach to news, was actually the main reason we came here. Sad that the staff don't realise this.

Surely the professional thing to do would be to have resolved all of these issues before going live with the new design? Right now you're just making yourselves look like fools, and ****ing off many of your users.

Well that's true perhaps, but the advertisers pay by 1000 hits. So when you have no users because of your rubbish new design you make no money. I can't find the profiles, plus the results are silly i.e 3Bert Grabsch, just nonsense.

ok.. stefan while i sympathise with much of what you have to say, please stop whittering on (or is it twittering on noawadays) about the site being free.. 90% of the internet with the abscence of porn, the guardian and the new york times is free.. the service is NOT free, because you receive income from us clicking on adverts, we are paying..

if the site was free of ads, no flash, etc and purely information then we would be getting it for free, but it is being paid for.. please stop making the publishers out to be some angels who are giving us something for nothing at of the goodness of your heart.. we know full well it is a business, and assumedly a fairly profitable on at that...

if i invite you round for dinner, and i dont bother dressing the salad and give you brown lettuce, if i undercook your chicken so there is raw juices coming from it, and completely overcook and over salt your vegatable, and then give you a peice of stale cake for desert.. what do you do.. You dont come for dinner again.. The fact that dinner was FREE is no argument in my defence for feeding you a lousy meal.. As a diner, paying, or otherwise, you expect if invited for dinner to receive something edible..

Thats not an invite by the way.. we can burn salad in our house.. :D

I read this website at home on Firefox, whatever the latest version is, as it auto updates, and also in work (on breaks and lunches) via IE5 maybe IE6, yes that is technological progress in a FTSE 100 company.

Now here is my compare and contrast for both platforms, and I could try using IE8 on my home PC, but that involves far too much clicking to look, so will wait till the weekend.

The site at best looks more cluttered, and I can't see the adverts when using the main page except at the top which is where I look for the latest items, compared to the old site. The old site was organised, and less cluttered in that you had better labelling of items, more user content, and those ads for income could be seen down the side without having to scroll half way down the page.

Moving onto to load times, as people have a problem with this, well at work I load the homepage and wait 30 seconds to be able to move the screen up or down, or click a link, considering we use a very, very fast network I find this is ridiculous, though may have something to do with the version of IE the company uses. Actually it must be IE6, as we had it upgraded last year for business continuity reasons. Though we still use MS Office 97, this is not a joke. Now, moving back onto topic, at home Firefox on a similarly fast network downloads pages in less than a second, in complete form without riders positions being cut off, and displayed over more than one line. But this having to "Show More" is a major annoyance, because personally I like to read every result, as it gives me some thoughts on potential future strategy in stage races or looking at riders form. This coupled with the usual race reports is the best way, and this is what you did in simple form.

As far as splitting out the different sporting disciplines, this is a good idea as those who really do not want to read about a certain discipline can then avoid it, but for those like myself and no doubt countless others, having to click on each tab to read results from different disciplines is very time consuming and therefore not something i'd personally look forward to, especially when it comes to the winter for six day events and cyclo-cross.

A further point is the teams and riders database, if I remember correctly it was Theo Muller at http://www.world-of-cycling.com that provided these and other elements such as past winners for some events, that did this each year, and the way it used to be whereby you clicked on to a drop-down menu selected a team and there you go, all the details you need was perfect, now to read about a UCI Continental Team it is necessary to scroll down for what seems like an eternity before checking each team out individually in case I miss it, was never a problem with the UCI code next to the team. Also, with regards to this, the older years like 2000 to 2004 has only the UCI womens teams, and none of the mens, as good as that is for checking out those, i'd like equality for all (makes a change, I think for a guy, to be asking for this).

Other than these points and of course a couple that have been listed prior, such as the photos, oh and the way they were listed as by the photographer, as this would guarantee their recognition and it had their website (if any) to click onto. Would be the improvements you are looking for to bring this back to the best cycling website on the net. Till then, i'm afraid that I will put up with it till a better option comes along. Even then, i'd still check in here once a week just for the forum, which is now the best part of the website, though I still think you could do with members who moderate on top of those who work for Future Publishing/Cyclingnews.com.

That is now definitely all I have to say on this subject, and I hope there is an improvement or even my Future Publishing subscription might get cancelled as this is a bad advertisement for its products.

My apologies everyone in my post I had a factually incorrect piece of information. If you notice the section I have placed in bold I stated Theo was part of the website, I have now found out that this was not the case. Still his fantastic work he used to complete is sorely missed.
