I don't think Taylor Phinney needs a Clinic thread

Because he doesn't. That's what it looks like to win a stage clean...you are actually exhausted at the end.

I agree he doesn't need a thread here.

Good plan and perfectly executed.

He talks the talk, after all the whole tramadol issue was really brought to light by his comments.

You forgot to include a poll. Always include a poll.

Poll question:
Should there be a poll about whether or not there should be a Clinic thread about Taylor Phinney?

Options:

1) Yes

2) No

3) Maybe just a poll about whether or not there should be a Clinic thread about Taylor Phinney.

4) Let's just ask Liggett and Sherwen.

5) I generally don't vote in polls, however, there should be a poll to determine the awesomeness of this thread title.

The main thing he's got going for him is his DNA.

He's exactly the type of rider who should be able to win clean. Given his genetic background, if Taylor Phinney can't win clean, then the entire sport is royally screwed.

But yeah, keeping company with Lance, Johan and Och, while trying to be the poster boy of The New Generation, doesn't help matters. Leaving JV's team for Lance's was something that came across as a bewilderingly idiotic move that was obviously orchestrated, and fully endorsed by, both Davis and Connie. I'm still at a loss when it comes to that. And when you go back and read the talking points coming out of the Phinney camp at that time, it makes no more sense now.

Very aero today though. :D

Since the poll sounds nice, can´t we make one?
I like options 1-5, but when unsure, I vote the "Vino-Option", thus I go with 6...

Don't know how much of a factor good genes are. Axel had the best, and he doped and was still an average pro. However, I think Phinney is cleaner.

Phinney is one of the top level pros I'd trust the most, but things like looking exhausted are absolutely meaningless.

Agree, of course the other end of the spectra, when a rider kills everybody on a mountain stage or in a long TT and steps off the bike like he just finished a Sunday ride just doesn't compute for me.

Yeh, because maximal effort from a doper has different side effects to maximal effort from a clean rider.

Phinney has either been a gamer since day dot or not at all, same boat as EBH and the more recent AIS/RB3 alumni.

(FWIW I give them the benefit of doubt)

He is one of the few riders I am willing to put my faith in. If he were to suddenly lose weight and start ripping it up the climbs without losing his TT power, that'd be a whole different story. For now I think his performances are in line with his talent.

Yes, let's not overstate his very modest results. A good day in horrible conditions in M-SR last year. 2 minutes behind Wiggins in London, same behind Martin in Firenze.

I guess if he comes out next year and doesn't lose a single ITT we can call it natural progression.

Phinney was (and maybe still is) trained with Allen Lim in Denver, last year.

He rides for Och/BMC, which is not a positive sign.

He was buddies with Armstrong and rode for Axel Merckx.

I would not be giving Phinney, nice guy that he is and makes all the right noises, a get out jail card free yet.

That's true. And yet, Phinney turned away from that, and the distinct impression I got from reading him is that he did it thanks to his greater understanding of what had happened. Not because he wanted to cover his ***, but because he knew better now.
