Traditionally, at least among cross country skiers I think, athletes have returned from altitude training a week or so before they want to hit top form. So if that theory applies to Stannard, he'll be a mean beast the next few weeks.

Getting a bit carried away here, no? Today's performance seemed a lot like Vansummeren's accidental PR win (without the actual win), the simple happenstance of being an unmarked strongman in a good position. And we're hardly all lining up to name the next monument that guy is going to win, are we?

Very excited about his prospects at P-R if Sky make him leader and look after him. Right now, I'd only really rate Cancellara's chances higher.

Never thought anything of him really.
Then saw him win the London Nocturne. Now it's a nothing race but he just destroyed everyone.
Then the British Nationals the guy was pinging and trashed the guys in the break. Dowsett said he was hurting all day just tapping through alongside Stannard...who then charged off to take the win. Mighty.
Plenty of big domestique performances and then that huge ride he did in the Worlds last year, jumping clear of Talansky on the Cauberg was awesome, really.
Super, super aggressive rider, attacks a lot in the wrong place, the attack he placed at 2km today when he was dead reminded me of him doing exactly the same thing in Kuurne 2010.
Now Vino is gone and Jens is over the hill, at least we have Stannard to place random attacks and dish out some pain. Chapeau.

Biased I know, but I thought it was the ride of the day. Everything will10 said: all power, all heart, not much cunning. I'd class him as a turbo diesel, only way he could've won was long, and he tried mabye 500metres too soon.
Wonder if he could have made that final attack stick had he not been riding for others.
Glad for him to be in the mix, not sure I expect him to win things but a classic podium or two will do.

I liked Stannard before I found out he came from my hometown. Since then he's become my favourite rider so I'm obviously more than a bit biased.
But for me, he's the srongest man in the peleton. If he hadn't been pulling at the front today, would they have caught him in the final 5k? I like to think not, especially with Canc and Sagan playing off each other.
The GTs look a bit light on breakaway stages this year, but he should monster one or two at least. As well as turning a some of the classics on their heads?
