Where would Porte be placed/finish if he was riding for himself, didn't have to work for Froome, eg. in another team?

Without Porte, Froome would definitely not be leading by over 5 minutes.

You might be forgetting Porte's implosion on the 2nd sunday when Froome had to do it all himself.

He didn't implode. He himself said he was told to slow down.

He would still have lost a good 4-5 minutes even if he hadnt of soft peddled the final climb, he tried his best to get back up to the group but once he was around 3 minutes down and still losing seconds he backed off.

He had to work at the start of the stage though and blew himself up. He obviosuly was having a bad day though so he would most probably lose something but its hard to say how much.

Don't give me that bs that Porte was told slow when he was the only sky rider left with Froome. Porte blew himself up and Froome was left isolated. He tried to come back on the flat and on Peyresourde but couldn't continue to close the gap once Moivestar decided to up the pace. That's when Sky realized Porte would just waste energy if he continued to chase, instead they told him to slow down and give up his GC ambitions.

Still dont know exactly what happened to porte on that stage. Dont think he was ill. Been absolutely 100 percent consistent this year up to that day so totally out of character to have a 'bad day'. Perhaps racing circumstances just conspired against him and he found himself in a bad position and just had too much ground to make up

Obviously not, but if SKY set their race schedules different
Henao and Uran could have been at the Tour instead of
Porte and Froomes lead could have been similar.

However, there is no doubt that Porte is an extremely intelligent
and superbly conditioned athlete capable of excellent results as
he has shown many times.

I believe Mr. Lemond had three Tour podiums with a team-mate
and one year his team won 10 stages and if you can prove that
Gregory James Lemond was doping there is a million dollars for
you in Austin, Texas. Good luck with that, by the way.

Top Ten.

Epic riding in general though from Porte (who would ever think that he would regularly out climb Contador?). Certainly a contender to win a GT in the coming years. Wonder if he will ride the Vuelta?

Yes it was amazing to see him leaving AC behind, like AX3 all over again except it was his captain struggling to keep up. If he was free to fly up the Alpe it looked like he'd make life difficult for Quintana and Purito. Yes Porte can win a GT he's only 28 - same as Froome.

Without Skys MARGINAL gains Porte would be nowhere

Bull**** he started cycling very late (after doing thriatlons). And within 2 years on the bike he started dominating the Australian circuit. He showed his class in his first year as a pro in Europe while he still had been a cyclist only for a few years. His test results (yes before SKY) were also incredible.
